is lee land vittert with the latest on this. good morning. >> good morning. there was a u.s.s. they came back saying they were far fewer people trapped and they were far better condition than originally thought. this is the first time we know of a u.s. team actually getting eyeballs on the situation there in northern iraq. video from the mountain shows a dramatic and desperate scene of men, women and children attempting to survive on the top of that rugged mountain after running for their lives from isis terrorists. those terrorists had them surrounded. u.s. air strikes and kurdish fighters have taken some of the pressure off the situation. meantime, the u.s. says humanitarian aid drops have helped, as have evacuations by iraqi military helicopters. critics of the administration respond saying this is still too little, too late to deal with the isis threat. from the administration comes word that they say they have a clear mission right now in ira. >> we have a very specific objective with respect to the humanitarian situation that is to get food, water and emergency supplie

. >> leland vittert is following this story for us this morning. >> reporter: good morning. walked and that certainly bodes well for a man infected with one of the world's most deadly diseases. dr. kent brantley went to africa to be on the front lines of the ebola outbreak and is now a patient for himself. this is the isolation at emory university hospital. there are four hospitals in the country with the ability to safely treat a virus like ebola. >> i think it is unique that this is the first patient that has ebola in the united states, but that's the key point. i can't think of a better place in the world other than emory hospital to care for this patient. >> reporter: he arrived on a medivac plane with a tent of sorts built inside the plane. now the plane is back on its way to africa to pick up the other american affected with ebola. keep in mind, there's no cure for ebola but just trying to keep the patient comfortable and keeping their fever down. while in africa, he received a blood transfusion from one of his patients that survived ebola. it is thought that contained
