let's bring in nbc bay area's scott budman, who joins us in walnut creek. scott, what are you seeing? and are there any major problems where you are? well, good evening, raj. we are seeing a steady rain as we have all weekend. no major problems, but you mentioned power outages. we saw one here. as we've seen the intensity rise from time to time during the day, both when it comes to rain and wind. for most of the day, walnut creek residents walked through downtown with their umbrellas up. we enjoy the rain, even walking in it with all this water on the ground. yeah, i'm glad it's here. it's nice to see more rain around. they've been dealing with it for days now. we always need it. it's a beautiful time to reflect and feel warm and cozy and drink coffee. and it's. it's the season. she's more the environmentalist. i. if i could have it my way, i would have it sunny and 80 degrees every single day. so i don't like the rain. but for about an hour this afternoon, high winds caused a power outage in part of the downtown, knocking out traffic lights and power at ne

our scott budman has been following the showers in walnut creek for us today. scott, how's it been out there? well, hey, audrey, it's been consistently wet. the rain coming down right now as it has for most of the morning and the afternoon. and from the looks of it into the evening, it's been fairly consistently average. so nothing all that bad. in fact, at several times during the day, the rain actually stopped and people could walk around without umbrellas. but they've kept their umbrellas up for most of the day and briefly at about 1230 here in downtown walnut creek for a couple of streets near where we are right now, the power actually went out. and so traffic lights were out and some restaurants lost power briefly for about an hour, hour and a half before it went back on. now all the lights in the area are on, and once again we have seen consistent rain so far this evening. okay, consistent rain so far. pretty average out there in walnut creek. i see a number of people out there walking behind you. i know you got to speak with people braving the rain out t

we're starting to see more of those clouds now into walnut creek.ice the temperatures not going to be as cold tonight as we get more moisture and more cloud cover moving in. and there you see the view around san rafael at 57 degrees. cloudy skies starting to fill on in and into san francisco. more of those low clouds 60 right now in san francisco and will likely see temperatures in the mid to upper 50s for lows for tomorrow morning. now, a reminder this time of year, the daily rainfall averages are starting to creep up close to a 10th of an inch of rain in santa rosa. obviously less in san jose, at least for tomorrow. we should beat those averages, especially around the north bay, and that will begin as early as 7 a.m. tomorrow, where the rain starts there first, with those temperatures in the 50s by noon. now the rain pushes towards the south bay. places like san jose southward. and notice tomorrow's highs. we had weekend temperatures mostly in the 70s tomorrow we're looking at highs in the low to mid 60s across most of our inland valleys. so right

pretty much all the way from walnut creek to san jose and north and south of all those points. after rain moved through the region last night. let's get over to meteorologist rob mayeda to find out how much rain we got, we got, and what we can expect tonight. yeah, those rain totals pretty impressive across the north bay locations from napa up to calistoga. mill valley, even out to fairfield, saw about a half inch of rain, but generally less than that south of san francisco, just barely enough to register as you head into san jose and the south bay. now, the second half of the weekend is going to wrap up with this wind advisory for solano county. so by this time tomorrow night, we'll begin to see the wind pick up. and this is in a sea breeze. these are the return of the offshore winds. so a dry wind will pick up as we approach midnight tomorrow night. you can see how the north bay hills and the diablo range could be looking at wind gusts above 45mph. so wind will be the top concern as we wrap up the weekend with the potential of even higher wind speeds. with a second offshore w

here with me now is lisa kai, neonatologist at kaiser walnut creek. we really appreciate you joining me. so there's a there's a lot for us to walk through when it comes to preterm birth. and my first question is, you know what what causes it? what causes a woman to go into labor early? >> yeah, that is a great and difficult question in some cases we know why prematurity happens. it can be related to maternal conditions. moms who have high blood pressure or diabetes, placental or uterine issues. sometimes it can run in families. if a mom has a premature birth, she's more likely to have additional preterm births. also, if there's an infection brewing with mom or a baby that can sometimes trigger early labor. and as more and more moms have multiple births so twins, triplets, quadruplets those also are more prone to early delivery as well. >> so is there anything that that can be done to prevent a preterm birth? >> yeah. that's so what happens is the preterm births. we talked about the causes there. but the majority of preterm births, we actually don't kn

we did have wind speeds earlier, close to 30mph, 55 degrees in walnut creek.windy atop mount diablo. not so much right now in downtown walnut creek at 58 degrees. currently in san francisco. so for the mountains, as you wake up tomorrow morning, elevations above 2000ft likely still seeing those gusts near 50mph, but down into the lower elevations, the valleys. we're expecting mainly breezy conditions to start the day. and if it was not for the wind, our temperatures tomorrow are actually very pleasant. offshore winds tend to bring temperatures up, and you can see by our highs tomorrow low to mid 70s through the santa clara valley, tri-valley and even some 70s bay side around oakland. a little bit warmer tomorrow. san mateo still looking at upper 60s closer to sfo. downtown san francisco 70 degrees and one side of those offshore winds. look at the temperature in santa rosa. that is the downsloping warming effect of offshore wind. could be close to 80 for tomorrow. now, here is the pattern that has us concerned in that tuesday night into wednesday time frame. an
