host: this is the fifth debate happening at washington university. what is it about the university that makes it a go to place of sorts for a presidential debate? guest: i guess i don't know for sure. with a long tradition here, as you know, beginning back in 1992 , when we hosted, for the first time, and when we did that, we e,d that with one weeks' notic so something was happening, and another site was not working out. they approached us, and we stepped up to the plate and hit a home run in 1992 with george bush senior, bill clinton, and ross perot. we kept coming back to them every cycle, and they have been willing to give it to us. i think st. louis and the midwest is probably a good location geographically for lots of reasons -- for travel, for political demographics -- but i think what we hear from the commission is that they like our facility, they like our people, they like the attitude that we bring to this because, you know, we do not do this for a living. we are not invention planters, -- we're not convention planners , but we are able to g

welcome everybody from washington university in st. louis.t is the site of this year's second presidential debate. and folks here are kind of a little -- this will be their fifth go around handling a presidential debate. between 1992 and 2008 the presidential debate commission asked them to do no fewer than five debates. one they were scheduled to do in 1996 that was shelved two weeks prior and they were trying to reschedule but it wouldn't be rescheduled here. nevertheless this school, a beautiful school, beautiful campus, and a quality school at that. i mean, if you add tuition and room and board it sets you back for $65,000, so i don't know how that would come up in a debate over whether the government picks up tuition for 80% families in this country but i think that would be an interesting financial question. i have a feeling though other issues have risen to the top of the debate rage set and they include revelations about what donald trump was saying some 11 years ago about women, and some revelations about e-mails with hillary clinton
