the north and west of oklahoma city, from chilledres, which is in texas, all the way up to around wichitansas. let's take it hour by hour as we head through the evening and overnight tonight. we have see the solid line of showers and thunderstorms around little rock and st. louis. that moves into the ohio valley and great lakes tomorrow. it's a little more scattered tomorrow but still the possibility of a few strong or severe thunderstorms. then as we turn our attention to monday morning, that's whe things start to get going in the western part of the texas, around amarillo, and during the day that progresses towards the east, especially to the north and west of oklahoma city right around wichita. and this area in the line of tornadoes. big dip in the jet stream right there. strong upper level low in the west with cold air in the upper atmosphere, combining forces with a southeast wind right off the gulf of mexico, dragging moisture in. with that southeast wind at the surface and southwest wind aloft, these storms will twist and turn, and we may see some strong tornadoes,s especially on t

joplin, wichita, oklahoma city, these are the areas where the risk is at its highest.erally, again, for damaging wind and hail. you can't rule out a dozen or more tornadoes across this region as we've seen in the past couple of days. notice as we go around towards the sunset period, you see storms wanting to flourish around this region. any time you see afternoon or evening storms, another element of concern associated with it as visibility drops across these areas. going into tuesday, increase in the orange, on a scale of 1 3 of 1 to 5. once again, the heavy rainfall becomes part of the concern here with wichita mainly being the area that could see potentially up to 3 to 4 inches of rainfall in that general region. the flood warnings have already been prompted across some of the rivers. you notice some widespread flooding that has taken place in recent weeks. at this hour, over 140 rivers reporting some flooding. 40 rivers recording major water. you put additional water in areas that are already strained and you're going to have more problems. middle 70s out of kansas

but you see more storms developing over wichita and oklahoma city right now. this is the way it looked yesterday. 40 reports, 35 tornadoes and seven funnel clouds. technically a funnel cloud is a tornado before it reaches the ground. so when you say tornado touches down, it's redundant, it's a funnel cloud. it's a pet peeve of mine and it's actually correct to say it that way. you can see around new york, pennsylvania, pittsburgh, we could have tornadoes there today. we could have another round, look at that, from the panhandle of texas into the heart of kansas. it's going to be another active severe weather day. what's happening all of these storms coming through our neighborhoods are going through the rockies, coming out of the rockies, and spinning up. that's what's producing these tornadoes. so when we can stop the storms from coming through us, there's a less likely chance they'll head to the midwest and cause tornadoes. for us today it couldn't be much more of a picture per at noon. mid-70s at 4:00. sue? >>> we do have some road work. u the gaps betwe th

greatest risk of tornadoes is in this area of pink in here just to the west of oklahoma city and wichita falls. the ground has been soaked. 6 million people are under flash flood watches. here's the timing. we had thunderstorms in north texas. by the time we head towards the noon hour one round of rain up in areas of kansas. . nothing too severe. by the time we get to mid-afternoon that's when we start to watch these individual supercells. by 4:00 p.m. numerous super cells with tornadoes on the ground. oklahoma city is here. in between oklahoma city and childress, this area of the western portion of oklahoma is most at risk. then those storms will roll through oklahoma city. notice how long it's raining in oklahoma city with heavy rain. very concerned with flash flooding in and around oklahoma city later on this evening. besides that story of severe weather in the middle of the country we have a heat wave building in areas of the east. today is warm and humid. nothing too unusual. but then as we go through the week the heat only gets worse and more humid too. on tuesday we're at 94 in ge
