just days and his new job is in wilmington to help that city fight crime. delaware bureau reporter tim furlong was the only reporter to speak to ramsey about his new job today and is joining us live from wilmington. tim? >> reporter: ramsey just retired from the force, i asked why didn't you go play golf like other retirees? said he chilled out for five days and that was enough. wilmington needs it. >> if i can be of some assistance to make the streets a little bit safer, then i'm more than willing to do it. >> reporter: ramsey fought crime in philly, chicago, and d.c. after ferguson president obama hand picked him to lead a task force to improve police and community relations and now he agreed to help fight crime in wilmington. he'll be a paid consultant for the police department. >> we want to really take a deeper dive into who's responsible for committing some of the crimes here in wilmington, particularly the violent crimes. >> reporter: wilmington has broken its own murder records. there have been crime panels and experts and consultants here. the stat

the temperatures without the wind are cold. 15 in wilmington and trenton. doylestown at 12, 13 in pottstown now. and chester county it's 13 for westchester and in phoenixville 14 degrees. chester springs is at 13 and the wind is making it feel like it's below zero in much of the area. satellite, a few thin clouds northwest, we'll see plenty of sunshine today. and warmer weather over the next couple days. but toward the weekend the storm that is moving onto the west coast is our snowmaker for later friday and saturday. it's moving through california, into utah and colorado, then it looks like it fizzles. watch over kansas, that spinning is the beginning of the storm coming together. it taps into the gulf and starts coming our way. we'll be dry friday morning but you can see the rain in tennessee and alabama. that will be arriving here into the colder air and it will be a big snow generator. we issued a first alert as the storm develops late friday, stays with us saturday. many areas seeing a snowstorm, nor'easter conditions at the shore. today sunshine, you

the same in pottstown, wilmington. down to half mile in dover and in lancaster down to three quarters of a mile but look at this. in the poconos still excellent visibility. the heavy snow still has not reached the mountains. we do have that blizzard warning continues through early sunday morning for most of the region. we're going to have heavy snow no doubt about it but we need that wind that strong wind element that will be moving in. by tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m., we're looking at snow accumulations between 3-inches in the poconos to 10-inches in dover and philadelphia about 8-inches of snow and in pottstown about 7-inches of snow already on the ground and counting. as far as the impacts are concerned, significant impacts come tomorrow. for more on that i send it over to my colleague scott williams. scott, we haven't seen nothing yet. >> that's certainly right, kathy. we continue to follow new developments with this storm system ultimate doppler, it is lit up with the snow. not just blizzard conditions yet but as

she's live on king street in wilmington. trish. >> reporter: well, rick, sharrie, no snow yet but when the storm hits the city of wilmington will have 200 miles of streets to plow but with salt and sand supplies fully stocked and drivers working 12-hour shifts officials say they're ready. preston foster is one of wilmington's plow truck drivers. he says after 12 years of maneuvering through snowstorms he's ready for this one. >> after the years of experience i have there's no preparation it just happens. >> reporter: but for the city there is a lot of preparation happening for the 18 to 24-inches expected this weekend. 64 employees plus private contractors will help clear the streets and 1800 tons of salt is waiting to be loaded into trucks. wilmington public works commissioner jeffrey starky hopes for a smooth operation with the public's help. >> please stay out of the way of the plows and please do not shovel stuff back into the street. that makes it difficult for us to continue to plow. >> reporter: at the newark deldot y

wilmington and into northeast maryland, traveling to the d.c.area, you're not traveling to the d.c. area with 20 to 30 inches of snow for baltimore and d.c., the western suburbs of d.c. going to get the heaviest. we'll see significant snowfall for wilmington, south jersey and pennsylvania, farther to the north and west the snow totals won't be as impressive but still a heavy wet snow for the allentown area into the lehigh valley up to 10 inches of snow. and the rain/snow line, we'll be updating as the day goes on, the more it comes inland the more limiting of snowfall you'll see at the shore. in delaware and interior new jersey and delaware. but if it stays closer to the coastline you can expect this area to be enlarged. same story for the 10 to 14 area as well. snow through the day on saturday, if you don't have to go anywhere, best not to. until sunday when we'll be digging out and windy conditions, strong gusty winds, lots of snow on power lines that could lead to outages. we may see an extended period without power in spots well into next we
