this morning in the 2800 block of south winchester after a string of burglaries in the los gatos campbell area. campbell police cornered the suspects who had a third person with them but the driver stepped on the xwgas and rammed one of e patrol cars. police say at that point the woman left behind saw the vacant patrol car, jumped in it and tried to make her getaway. that's when a veteran officer tried to stop her. >> the door to the patrol door car was closed. he reached in through the open window to try to get the car stopped and the keys out of the ignition and it was at that point where the female suspect put the patrol car into reverse and accelerated at a high rate of speed. that threw the officer to the ground and she fled down winchester boulevard. >>> the patrol car police say the woman stole was found about 2 1/2 hours later this morning. right now the search is on for

police shut winchester avenue because of a standoff. the police say that a man threaten somebody with a gun, then barricaded himself inside his home. he was taken into custody at 8:00 and nobody was hurt. strange circumstances tonight in prince service county, their second homicide this year. a man's body was found just before 4:00 on a quiet cul-de-sac in fort washington. nothbors say they did recognize the man or the mercedes he was lying next to. >> i'm shocked. i have been here six years. nothing like this has ever happened. kimberly: the police are not releasing the victim's name or how he died. found a cell phone at the scene after the police left. he did not touch it and call the police, who came back out and took it into evidence. of aw know the name motorcycle rider killed in a crash this afternoon in northeastern montgomery county. the police say that the 42-year-old man died when his motorcycle hit a woman's car on centreville road. tom roussey spent the afternoon at the scene. neighbors had an eighth or sting theory why the

wusa9 photojournalist greg geiss has been checking the roads all day from winchester. hey greg. >> reporter: they got hit pretty good everywhere. and checking the roads, it's been a white knuckler today. i've traveled from washington via i-66 to toms brooke virginia and now northbound on i want state 81. you can see a number of cars have pulled over. these truckers haven't been here for the whole duration of the storm. they may have been at the truck stop at toms brooke, whatever, may have had an iced upwind shield, which is a problem for everybody driving out here. the blowing snow makes the windshield tough to see through it you know your wipers just can't handle it. they ice up and pretty soon your visibility goes. we are going to explore together and i can't tell what you we are going to see. this is the exit ramp from northbound interstate 81 to virginia route 7, one of the major roads of course, it leads to leesburg. and really it is passible in a four wheel drive vehicle. i wouldn't dry more than that. i 81 has been cleared and certainly is drivable with a few n

winchester, this is mostly in the form of rain. temperatures for the most part mostly above freezing. we're in the bhid mid 40s in ma areas. the temperatures will be dropping tonight. this is the area we're really watching. a very thick line and very heavy line. not just snow showers but snow squalls making their way through parts of the region, even lightning soerassociated with t as it moves on to the east and is going to help enhance snow showers in our rege. we're expecting those to come through over the next couple hours. they will be brief. they'll last five to ten minutes. again, they could produce fairly heavy snowfall for that period of time, may reduce visibility. ahead of the system, 49 in d.c., 23 in pittsburgh. see the very cold air make its way in here. that's why we'll switch over from any rain to snow as we move on to the next couple hours. not a huge deal but it's something we're watching. the bigger deal is the cold, veronica johnson out there. v.j., i love that hat. >> reporter: i'm bundled up. big hat, coat, sca

now down to 37 in winchester. some snowflakes reported there. cumberland at 32. with that snow that has fallen in that region. 48 toward po tuck set river. look at the shower activity around our region. again, this is what you saw from the cloud cover, 495 fredericksburg shower activity, snow back to the west. we'll do a couple zooms. montgomery county heavier showers around the olney area, likely falling as rain, maybe mixed with snow. look at columbia seeing snow around the baltimore area. they're seeing snow, too. then back to the west this is what i'm watching. this is and it's fairly heavy between hagerstown and martinsburg. if you live in martinsburg, it's on your doorstep right now coming toward shepardstown over toward frederick in about the next half hour to an hour. so that's what we're going to continue to watch. it's this band right here that has brought 1 to 2 inches associated with it. very quickly in some areas. so i wouldn't be surprised if it was to put down a coating on that to jektrajectory would move down d.c., most likely staying in maryland,

hagerstown, martinsburg, winchester, frederick. the temperatures there are feeling below zero. a quick snapshot, though, of the big storm for friday and into saturday and we're going to get more computer models coming on in and a better idea but things are starting to agree. accumulating snow starting friday morning. then comes the heavy stuff for areas west of 95. all snow all the time. it's areas south and east where you have some rain mixed in. that is problematic. that could cause some power outages. that will cause even more ice to build on top of the snow. so that's why we're really concerned and snowfall totals will be hard to predict until we determine where the the warm air will be because the rain will squash some of the snowfall totals being predicted right now. farther north and west near hagerstown, that looks to be the bull's eye with snowfall totals. you won't see much changeover to rain. other areas will see rain mixed in there. so it's not an all snow event. still a lot of moving parts. we're still several days away but you want to start thinking about making y
