zach fuentes, abc seven news. >> thank you zach. if you thought january's bridge toll increase to eight bucks would be the last one for a while, think again. the bay area toll authority just approved a new round of toll hikes that will have most drivers paying $10.50 by the year 2030. so here's when and how much you'll be paying. january 1st, 2026 tolls go up to 850 for most drivers, paying with fastrak tolls go up $0.50 every year until 2030, topping out at 1050. the tolls are even higher if you don't use fastrak, so it will be 1150 by 2030 for drivers who pay by mail. and there are also changes for carpoolers starting in 2026, the minimum number of occupants in the carpool lane at bridges goes up to three. that's the same number required at the bay bridge right now. carpool drivers get half off their tolls and use of the diamond lane. the toll authority says revenue will go strictly for maintenance and repair of the seven state, state owned bay area bridges. >> the cost for construction projects have outpaced inflation generally.

zach. >> lisa. thank you. new details about the fiery crash that killed three college students in piedmont. officials have released their names and are sharing memories from their families about those young lives lost. sean dixon, kristen tsukahara and jack nelson died when the tesla cybertruck they were in crashed. a fourth person who was injured in the crash remains in the hospital. all were 2023 graduates of piedmont high school and were home for the thanksgiving holiday. the city released statements from the families of the three victims who died in that crash. sean dixon was a student and lacrosse player at usc. his family wrote sean lit up a room, made friends easily, and had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcomed and valued. kristen tsukahara or krista tsukahara, excuse me, was a sophomore at the savannah college of art and design. her family says she will be remembered for her kind and sensitive heart, love for her family and friends, and for her incredible eye for style and design. jack nelso

abc seven news reporter zach fuentes has more on the residents conditions and the impact to that area. >> a living nightmare for some residents in the santa cruz mountains. when a fire broke out in their apartments overnight. the boulder creek volunteer fire department said it happened just after midnight friday. situated in the mountain community of brookdale. the apartment sit above and near the local post office. >> all my ceilings caved in. i have water everywhere. so yeah, we were out of a house to live right now. >> john bull said he lives downstairs and was woken up by the commotion. >> didn't know exactly what was going on until the next door neighbor, tim, came up and knocked on her door and let us know that the apartment was up. the upstairs was on fire. >> fire officials confirm it was neighbors who helped four people out of the building before fire units could get there, but two children and one man were still inside. alex lando shot this video and saw much of the chaos unfold. >> there's adults yelling, you know there's another child in the building, and eventually one of

and, zach, what are you learning? >> yeah, it is just incredible what happened here this afternoon.the wharf over here in this direction. the very, very end of it, 150ft at the end, collapsed into the ocean. and just to show you how far some of the debris, actually building a restroom that was at the end of the wharf is all the way over in this direction over here. now you're seeing some of the video of the construction workers of that debris in the moments after it fell into the ocean. officials say this all happened after 1244 this afternoon, when they received the call that an end of the municipal wharf where the dolphin restaurant and restroom number three were collapsed into the ocean, along with three workers. some of those engineers working on the structural integrity of the wharf to see if they could bring construction into the area eventually, because they were anticipating this high surf. now, two of those victims were rescued by a lifeguard unit. one other person was able to self rescue themselves. we'reg
