letting people like phil robertson sort of be a mouthpiece for their party. i believe that that problem is going to manifest itself over the next year, over the next two or three years as the party tries to reshape itself. >> you're a republican pollster. is there any validity to what he's saying? >> this isn't a new dynamic. you had archie bunker republicans going back to the '70s and south park republicans throughout the 2000s. this idea there's a tension between what the party's brand should be and defensive political incorrectness has been there for decades. the challenge for republicans is there's this demographic issue of how much of the archie bunker votes is still there for them. but this issue isn't just about conservative republicans. nbc esquire about a survey last fall, the new american center. it actually found about a third of people in that new american center are anxious about the changing demographics of america which is sort of a politically incorrect view to hold, that lots of people don't hold the views that phil robertson had to that exte

so there's a lot of question about whether robertson will be there in person or not. what are you hearing? >> well, we are an hour-and-a-half away from when robert roberson is scheduled to testify here before this house committee. that is investigating look, we'll evidence in his conviction, but it is not clear whether or not this testimony will happen virtually or in person, or if it will even happen i've been at all, it is a three-and-a-hal f hour drive from the death row prison unit where robert roberson is house here to the state capital. we have no indication yet, obviously this is not something that they would announce in terms of travel coordination with a death row inmate bringing them to the capitol, but beyond that, we are getting no indication than an hour-and-a-half a death row inmate will be showing up here at the texas capitol to testify before this house committee. and on top of that, erica, we know that over the weekend, the texas attorney there'll has intervened and has essentially told the house committee that they will not provide robert roberson to
