could possibly be eyeing myrtle beach.urse as you know hurricanes can change paths quickly so, we will be keeping a close eye on irene. and a look at the local forecast, look at the level of the tower. watch the marine layer going from 2,000 feet deep to just about a thousand foot. we are talking about a compression for the marine layer. as it is compressing it is becoming dense right down on the deck and the fog is reducing visibility to a quarter mile. we are also seeing a northerly dry wind flow clearing out the fog so along the coastline the fog is clear. and now it is situated from san francisco southward. it is very limited in coverage. temperatures in the 50s to the low 70s. as you look at the highlights, our coastal fog is dense in spots for the morning commute and warmer in all areas tomorrow. you are looking at mild conditions at the coast and hot as we head inland tomorrow. it is not expecting a whole lot in the way of fog. and tomorrow you are going to feel the heat. it is an area of high pressure that will bri

to give you and idea of where we are, we're south of myrtle beach and north of charleston, south carolina feel very fortunate. we definitely need the rain because we were seeing a trout here in south carolina. the rain is welcomed. there are a few power outages and i know the causeway to paulie's island was closed because of the high waters. the atlantic ocean, the waves have been monster waves. there were a few surfers out this afternoon but later this evening absolutely no one in the water. in fact, the beach, there was no beach. the high tide normally leaves about ten yards of beach along here, but there was essentially no beach, it washed right up to the dunes and in fact into the stairways that are the beach access to the inns along this beach and the folks here had not ever seen the water that high. it has gone back down, but it stayed high well beyond the high tide at 6:00 this evening. so we're just now seeing the atlantic ocean recede and that's the way it looks here right now. >> and debbie, the fact that the storm has weakened somewhat over the course of today do you think that

but right now the areas feeling it the most from myrtle beach up to wilmington. with winds sustained, gusting at 50 mile per our wind range. so it is just starting to begin here for the carolinas. but we know it'll be a long next 72 hours here with this storm. if you are also just tuning in and you watched this morning, let's say, now long island, also all of new jersey and right up into the capen colluding the massachusetts area, and the cape, now underler cane warning. so you need to be very closely monitoring this, if you do live along the coastline. you may ask, be asked to leave, with possibly mandatory evacuation. we notice weakening and it looks like it may go on shore tomorrow for the carolinas as category 1 storm at this point. a strong category 1 for tomorrow morning and then moving up into new york city, staying as category 1. we do think at this point as we head into sunday morning. so this storm system looks, by all accounts, like it is going to hold up for the new england area with those evacuations currently in place. >> i heard one forecaster say

and it could come in as a major hurricane up there somewhere between myrtle beach, wilmington or the outer banks. this could still have a significant impact points north including d.c. and baltimore and right up the jersey shore to new york city. looking back, the last time new york city had a hurricane approach them relatively close within 60 to 70 miles was gloria in 1975. this has the potential to be up there as a hurricane. you have to be concerned for new york and new jersey, a lot of rain in august. the wettest summer in philadelphia. you combine 50 to 60-mile-an-hour winds with the saturated ground, that means a lot of trees coming down and power outages. this is going to impact 65 million to 70 million in some way, shape or form by next monday. the track is not etched in stone, but a landfall will be saturday impacting furious parts by monday. >> thank you so much for that report, mike seidel. >>> we have breaking news about dominique strauss-kahn. he is one step closer to being a free person after the judge is basically rejecting the special prosecutor for the dsk case. >>>
