it happened around 6:00 last night at seventh and willow streets near interstate 880, near a van promoting musician. kraig debro has been on the story all morning and joins us live to explain why information on this shooting is so hard to come by. kraig. >> reporter: tori, the two institutions involved aren't releasing much information. the hospital says it won't say anything about the one-year-old who was shot in the head and the police have not returned our calls except to say there will be a news conference in one hour from now. however, the video you're about to see tells a major part of the story. the surveillance video shows three men turn the corner and then turn their guns on people in a liquor store parking lot at seventh and willow in west oakland. some of those people defended themselves and returned fire. minutes before 6:00, police say neighbors called to report an argument. >> it was fairly large gun battle as far as we could tell, multiple casings, and i can't say for sure about what calibers were involved. >> the gunfire wounded eight people, including a one-year- old boy w

that three gunmen came around the corner from this liquor store here on the corner of seventh and willow in west oakland. the three of them just opened fire on the crowd of about 30 to 40 people in the parking lot. they were performing some kind of routine. two of the gunmen ran out of bullets and then they jumped back into the getaway car. the third gunman had an extended clip. he kept on shooting. all three of them got in the car and took off. none of the victims at the scene waited for an ambulance. everyone just jumped into the car and headed to the local hospital. we have pictures of the tense emotional scene at children's hospital. three of the victims were kids. one of them was a 1-year-old. the other five victims were adults. we do not have any conditions of them at this point, but oakland police say that some of their conditions are critical right now. it is unclear as to what kind of gun was used here at the scene. >> it looked like automatic weapons? >> i can't say right now. there are a lot of casings out here. so the evidence is possessing and showing that there was a large

shooting incident and we're told that this site was a music video -- rap video being shot at 7th and willow streets. you will see people standing around near a truck in the parking lot and all of a sudden people start ducking and running for cover, some of them under the truck. another person you will see fires back at the assailants and from a different angle you see in a different video. we see three people rounding a corner all of them wearing hooded sweatshirts and start firing at the crowd. now, one of the shooters stays in the front lines longer than the other two. all the victims rushed to hospitals before officers arrived. some of them to highland hospital. oakland police say a lot of witnesses were at that site that night and they want them to come forward with any vital information. >> we really are asking the assistance of the community tonight to please get involved. we know that we had a lot of people out here it evening. there are a lot of eyes and ears. please come forward. >> and nearby businesses tell us that they heard between 30 to 40 shots ring out that night around 6:30
