ktvu's eric rasmussen joins us and live. police updated him on the situation there. >> reporter: they are still looking for this suspect at this hour. it was behind this dmv building where police confirm one of their officers shot at a suspect who had a gun. it is not clear if the suspect was hit and for the last few hours, officers have had this area surrounded. they have been focusing on an area along side a house. police say it started around 2:00 p.m. when police say a man was spotted with a gun. police say when an officer attempted to stop him he ran and turned on the officer with a gun. the officer opened fire but the suspect got away and it has been frightening for neighbors here, including one woman who was asked to get out of their house so police could search. >> it is crazy. you are used to seeing this on tv and in real life it is shocking. scary. you know? >> reporter: at one point police say they used tear gas to try it get the suspect to give up. they didn't order school lock downs but one school took precautio
