those three people police believe are connected to the shooting of a san francisco police officer.p.m. last night the driver of this car was spotted in richmond and police say based on their investigation, they believe he was involved with the earlier shooting in san francisco. police tried to stop that driver for questioning. the driver fled leading the chp on an hour lorng pursuit from richmond to san jose. that pursuit ended without a crash shortly after chp deployed spike strips to disable the car. the shooting happened yesterday just before 3:00 p.m. in the mission district in san francisco. two police officers in a patrol car responded to a disturbance call and tried to stop the driver of a vehicle. at one point police say the officers felt threatened when they say the voc began to back up toward them. one of the officers opened fire hitting the passenger side window of the vehicle. police say based on witness accounts, they believe someone in the vehicle shot at the officers, striking one of them in the left shoulder. >> there are a number of things that we have to really pi

four police officers killed in the line of duty will be honored today. >> reporter: the oakland policeficult day. they realize this is not only a difficult day for them but for the families and the city. and we're at memorial park where the public is invited to stop and pay respects. we have seen some people get choked up. they remember this day five years ago like it was yesterday. that's when felon lovelle mixon shot and killed four officers after a stop. three sergeants, mark dunakin, ervin romans and daniel sakai died that day. john hege passed away days later. and people banded together to create a memorial park. >> people come here, they visit the memorial, a lot of police officers, especially the motorcycle officers, will come and stop for a few minutes and reflect. it has been a wonderful way to honor the service of our police officers here in oakland. >> reporter: and in two hours there will be a private service for the police at the cathedral of christ the light on harrison street downtown. it will last one hour. the families of the fallen officers will be present. we're live

tough times for police and fire fighters in san jose. tonight they update the community on staff shortages which affect the crime and fire fighting services people rely on yet another pedestrian killed by a vehicle in san francisco. and tonight police are still trying to find the driver. details next the city of san jose says. the number of police officers on the street is falling -- and falling fast. here's the latest. right now, there are 970 street- ready officers. 905 of them are ready to deploy at any time. according to projections, by june of 2016, the department willhave 879 street- ready officers. but in reality. only about 800 will be available because of disability and military reasons. at this rate -- the number of officers in 2016, could dwindle to two -thirds of the 1400 available in 2008. that's the year budget restraints forced the city to make cuts. tonight, the police and fire departments talked about these projections with people in the willow glen neighborhood. kron-4's philippe djegal was there. sot- erik fong/willow
