we have team weather coverage as we keep our ire on the storm and we begin now with meteorologist kate bilo in the weather center. kate. >> thank you very much jessica and ukee. our storm has been overperforming. it has been dumping very heavy snow from virginia, maryland, d.c. all the way up through our region new york city and into southern new england all day long and it is not stopping at this hour. in fact some of the heaviest snow we've seen since overnight last night is now pushing through the greater philadelphia area, the i-95 corridor and into portions of western new jersey. so take a look at the storm finally starting to see it loosen up a little bit. we talked about how after five or 6 o'clock we would start to see snowfall rates lessen and breaks in the action. this dry slot has been persistent we had it this morning. it filled back in and redeveloped. your totals will be lower over south jersey and interior delaware. they've taken that snow and thrown it is up towards the lehigh valley, berks county where the snow totals are overachieving over 2 feet in many locations there. i

we have live team coverage of our first major storm of the season and we begin with meteorologist kate bilo. kate, walk us through what's a happening right now. >> what's happening right now is that this storm is continuing to strengthen and it's continuing to throw lots of moisture back toward the eastern sea board and heaviest of the banding not even moved into philadelphia yet. you can see what's happening with the storm. notice how it's starting to pivot. this way, an indication as the storm moves offshore and strengthens it's going to throw moisture back around the area. the stall several hours and continue to dump band of heavy snow on philadelphia, south jersey and delaware and into the dc area. look at that just an insane rate of snowfall. headed for dc and baltimore at the moment. and as we zoom in closer on our area, you can see those band we're talking about take a look at that, darker purple shading about here, another band poisoned to move into delco and heading not city of philadelphia and another in southern delaware. banding is basically like a squall line of thunderstorms i

lets get a first look at the forecast with meteorologist kate the bilo outside on the sky deck, kate. >> we have a few light rain drops falling and it may ease up in the past five minutes but a few light showers moving through the area and our snow pack the on the sky deck was at 18 inches, on saturday night, now down to about four or five, so a lot of melting has been happening, luckily it is not a super quick melt that will refreeze overnight and next few days are a little bit cooler then to day it should continue to be a gradual melt through rest of the week not looking for a major flood threat but everything out there that melts cannery freeze, at night. take a look the at showers we're talking about a cold front slicing right through eastern part of the country, heaviest rain is well off to the south, and showers here are generally few and far between, they are light, they are kind of negligible but as you can see in portions of bucks county, montgomery county, we have showers and a few light rain drops falling in the city at the moment this will continue overnight, 7:00 o'clock

. >>> so many people still cleaning up, meteorologist kate bilo is on the cbs-3 sky deck with a look at the what is happening right now and kate, is what coming up. >> reporter: that is right, what we're concerned about tonight and really every night this week will be the refreeze, with temperatures above freezing during the day and below freezing at night, all this snow and looking at piles on the sky connect that have exacted they are melting and losing could be tenth, puddles form, water on the road and as temperatures drop those water patches will refreeze. this is how low temperatures will go overnight, 29 in philadelphia. twenty-seven in allentown. sub freezing in wilmington. even in millville and dover with the air temperature of 34, you could still see elevated surfaces refreeze. so numerous icy spots expect overnight on the roads, in the morning, ice will turn to slush and then just wet and then rain showers in the afternoon. another round of wet roads expected, please be safe, use rule of thumb overnight if it looks wet expect that it is icy hit brakes and go slow, leaving r

meteorologist kate bilo joins us now with more details. kate. >> jessica and ukee, right now, the gfs model one of the major models we look norming american model is rolling out. the european model shifted south. the gfs completely the opposite it shifted further north and west. what does that mean for us? on saturday it means more warm air gets in with the storm and the possibility for a came over from the city on south and east. so that is another potential solution with heavy snow to the north and west. rain south and east. or we have another solution further south. i'll show was both of those look like coming in a few moments. right now it's clear, it's cold. and it's dry. the energy from the storm coming on shore now over portions of california and once it's on shore we'll be able to sample better data from it i do expect the morning european run to shed a lot of light on this and hopefully things will start to come together little bit more clearly by tomorrow afternoon with this storm. a lot of uncertainty still remains. it's 24 right

let's start with meteorologist kate bilo. she's in the weather sent with new information. kate?> that's right, it feel like we've been talking about this storm for so long but finally it's here. we can see it on the radar we can see it gathering strength we can see this storm is a powerful house it has lot of moisture with it that moisture conveyor belt from the gulf of mexico really bringing in the heavy rainfall over portions of georgia, portions of alabama, mississippi and some snow around the back edge in arkansas tonight and all of this is heading to the north where it will tap into very warm ocean water chem hers which will help to add moisture to the system and add energy to it as well as it moves into the northeast. we'll zoom in on it for you right now again you can see that heavy rain falling at the moment. some of that could end up being snow. really around the back edge what we're looking at as moisture gets thrown back around the back side of the storm especially through the day on saturday. so when can we expect the snow to begin? this time tomorrow oy do expect it

meteorologist kate bilo on the sky deck with more on the icy conditions. kate. >> that's right, ukee. we're seeing a lot of damp spots on the roads i was just looking down in the parking lot you can see some areas glistening looking like melted snow it looks wet but when temperatures are this close to freezing and in many spots below freezing, that's not a wet spot on the road that is more than likely going to be ice and it can cause not only a has czar on the roadways but a trip and fall hazard or slip and fall has czar as you step out the door early tomorrow morning. temperature wise 29 at the morning in the city. 26 in allentown. 27 in reading. not as big of a concern in our south and east suburbs down the shore temperatures well above freezing it will be cycle we'll be seeing through the next several days. temperatures in the afternoon get above freezing the snow begins to melt but we go back below freezing pretty much every night this week. so any of that snow melt refreezes and causes black ice and concerns on the roadways. in addition to that we've g

let's kick things off with meteorologist kate bilo. e has the very latest information coming into the weather sent. >> kate. >> thanks ukee. we just got new information our latest run of the gfs model just came in and it seems to support what we've been saying the only thing to look at which we'll talk more coming up in main weather in about 15 minutes or so is the chance for mixing which could limb snow totals that's something we have to keep a very close eye on warmer air trying to move in with the storm. in the meantime tonight storm scan3 showing snow and it's snowing pretty steadily over much of the delaware at the moment. snow showers still back to the west from the philadelphia area but overnight tonight after midnight you can see a few of these snow showers move through philadelphia but notice the steady snow here over delaware where some spots could end up with a half inch much not. mainly just scattered snow showers. this is not associated with our snowstorm this weekend. this is a clipper moving through. it's going to be here

let's start with meteorologist kate bilo. she's in the weather sent with new information. kate? >> that's right, it feel like we've been talking about this storm for so long but finally it's here. we can see it on the radar we can see it gathering strength we can see this storm is a powerful house it has lot of moisture with it that moisture conveyor belt from the gulf of mexico really bringing in the heavy rainfall over portions of georgia, portions of alabama, mississippi and some snow around the back edge in arkansas tonight and all of this is heading to the north where it will tap into very warm ocean water chem hers which will help to add moisture to the system and add energy to it as well as it moves into the northeast. we'll zoom in on it for you right now again you can see that heavy rain falling at the moment. some of that could end up being snow. really around the back edge what we're looking at as moisture gets thrown back around the back side of the storm especially through the day on saturday. so when can we expect the snow to begin? this time tomorrow oy do expect
