also, shootings down 35% in new york city in january. and that shootings figure, that is interesting because you might remember during the summer, we saw a spike in shootings in new york city. but now, down 35%. but going on to stabbings and slashings, those have gone up in the month of january by 20%. and that is a big worry for many new yorkers. early this week, commissioner bratton minimized this fear of this jump in stabbings and slashings. and then just an hour after that, after bratton spoke, another victim was attacked, this time on the number 3 train in brooklyn, becoming the tenth of this year. stabbing incidents this year. that is compared to 305 in january 2015. again, that is a 20% jump. police have increased patrols on the subway. also, guardian angels are involved. its founders saying slashings have paralyzed people with fear in new york city. again, 1:00 this afternoon, the mayor and the commissioner will be talking live about these. for now, dave evans, channel 7 eyewitness news. >>> new at noon, a judge handed down the ma

for that first snowfall to arrive in new york city. when it arrives temperatures are above freezing. it won't be accumulating for the morning commute in and around new york city. over long island it'll be different. they'll be snow covered roads over sussex county. eventually the back edge of the snow can make it into western new jersey during the course of tomorrow. i don't expect much accumulation in this area. temperatures are marginal and the snow is coming down lightly. it's new york city east we get the accumulation. one to three inches over much of nassau extreme western suffolk six inch band and maybe six inches plus over parts of the south fork of long island. peak winds could gust up to 40 miles per hour in and around the city. again, eastern long island gets the brunt. 50 miles per hour gusts possible. we watch storm number 2 coming in late monday night into tuesday and could last into wednesday. a few flakes at least. the storm moves to the south and has a wider area of snow. that's why we're expecting widespread one to thre

they'll be patchy fog but very light drizzle east and southeast of new york city. we're at 58 degrees right now. that's going to fight against anything sticking if the wet snow can reach back to new york city tomorrow night. average high, 39 degrees. not too far from a it hit 63 in poughkeepsie today. 61 in sussex, new jersey. that's just unbelievable. long island, this is what we'll be looking. we could get a few inches of snow tomorrow. tomorrow still a mild day. might be brightening in the middle of the day. you see the rain leaving montauk right now but still could be drizzle and fog tomorrow morning, especially south and east. the thing with this front down to the south is it's bowing back inland and it's sort of getting pinched in between a high offshore and jet stream to the west. so there's a couple lows along the front. they have nowhere to go but to come close to us and we're just on the western edge of this one tomorrow night in to tomorrow morning. i think some of the rain tomorrow night is going to change to wet snow. we could have slushy accumulation.

first of all, we have a wind chill warning in effect areas north of new york city. you don't see a wind chill warning issued too often around this. it's in effect for new york city, long island and new jersey through noon tomorrow down to 10 in central park all the way down to 6 degrees in white plains and check out these numbers already well north and west down to 4 below zero for an actual temperature at monticello. you add to that winds which are gusting upwards of 20 and 30 miles per hour across much of the area even up to 40 miles per hour and that is driving wind chills down to 8 park. that's what it feels like. it feels like 24 below zero at monticello. so already dangerously cold more dangerous as the night goes along. down to 2 for a low. that would tie a record set 100 years ago in central park. 11 below zero in monticello. highs tomorrow barely getting up into the middle teens and lowest wind chills overnight will be 10 to 20 degrees below zero. so a lot of layers, just common sense, wear hats and gloves heading outdoors. keep pets indoors and definitely k
