let's bring in republican congressman peter king of new york.e's a member of the homeland security committee and the chairman of the subcommittee on counterterrorism and intelligence. also joining me is sebastien gorka and matthew horner, distinguished chair at military marine university. thank you for joining us. >> thank you. >> congressman, what do we know about the shooter? what is new in terms of this investigation this morning? >> maria, i think he is the ideal profile for the type of person that isis has been trying to recruit for the last several years. he's probably psychotic, has some mental imbalance but he's drawn to terrorism. this is why the fbi needs to adjust their profile. they did not believe he should stay on part of an open investigation because they felt he was unbalanced. he didn't understand the difference between shiite and sun sunni. that is the type of person isis has managed to recruit. we had two police officers attack a year and a half ago with the man with a machete. he was inspired by isis. isis has this unique abi

now this is a bill that is being sponsored by the honorable peter king. he is a republican. so the point to be made is that we have bipartisan legislation that can't get to the floor for debate and then a vote. that's what we believe ought to happen. there ought to be a debate and a vote on these pieces of legislation that deal with what we believe to be legislation that can save some lives, won't save all lives. no legislation will. but it can save some lives. well, some would say that is not enough. one life is enough to be quite honest with you. and to lose any life because we haven't acted is to lose too many. after having lost 49 lives in orlando, do we want it said that after all was said and done, more was said done and nothing was done and all was said. is that our legacy? that we did not act on pending legislation that could have made a difference for the people of the nation? surely asking for a vote, asking for a debate, asking for an opportunity to be heard is not asking too much. i would would yield back to you, mr. clyburn, if you have further commentary. mr. c

. >> i want to bring in congressman peter king now joining us as well. hard to wrap your head around this, the worst mass shooting in american history. we are learning more about who did it. what more have you been able to learn since the shooting happened? >> well, you know, i was given his name, i believe his family is from afghanistan. i can't go any further but he does have experience in the use of weapons. again, it is a tragedy, obviously a tragedy, i think the fbi has to be concerned whether or not -- you know, there are any other conspirators or overall plan. no evidence yet but they can't rule that out. was he a lone wolf, was he inspired or directed? does he have connections with islamists groups? or was it also tied into an anti-gay bigotry? this is so early on in the investigation. they have gotten a lot of information but it will go on for a while. not just for the historical record but also to make sure it's not part of anything further that's out there that could be happening. >> to be clear, they're treating it as a domestic terror incide

the other bill is the king , a bill that peter and i introduced shortly after the tragedy at newtown.ith that bill says is if you buy a gun through a commercial sale, you have to have a background check. you buy a gun through a licensed dealer, you have to have a background check the our commercial sales going on in the country today -- there are commercial sales going on in the country today where you don't have to have a background check. host: the nra is opposed to it. they had this tweet about senator feinstein's bill. guest: that is the way the system works today currently when you buy a gun at a licensed dealer. if any american goes to a licensed gun dealer, buys a firearm, their name turns up to prohibited list, it is after-the-fact. they have a responsibility to get it cleared. i don't think it stops many gun sales, certainly did not stop any gun sales for people who have a legal right to purchase a firearm. the king bill, the no-fly no buy as an did process by which you can get off that list if you are not supposed to be on that list. expedited process. host: the states in gr
