erika: this morning, u.s. attorney carmen ortiz is speaking out days after releasing a critical report on the boston latin school. ortiz tells "the globe," quote, "we hope that by affirming some of the issues and problems that were being faced by a group of students, that those problems will be addressed." her recent investigation concluded civil rights of students were violated when the school failed to look into racial harassment claims. ortiz says she's confident reforms underway at th umass is planning a huge upgrade. the university system will spend $2.5 billion on campus improvements over the next five years. that includes $212 million in upgrades on the boston and amherst campuses, along with a big renovation to umass lowell's largest dorm. the move comes as students express concern about increased tuition to the state schools. proposal that would ban the importing of american lobsters to countries in the european union. sweden wants to list the crustaceans as an invasive species because they've now bee

erika: we begin with breaking news. another mass shooting, this time in a strip mall parking lot in houston. heather: police say 9 people were shot and wounded this morning by a lawyer who had issues with his law firm. when police arrived at the scene, the suspect shot at them. officers fired back, hitting him. he died at the scene. as for the injured -- chef but six individuals were transported to area hospitals. three were released for a total found at the scene. a bomb-squad robot is looking at a porsche that's believed to be the shooter's, and bomb squad officers also were examining the suspect's residence -- residents. we're also following breaking news out of fitchburg. a woman is dead after a fire in a home at 71 cottage street. according to the state fire marshall, the woman was found inside the building. erika: that was the second big firefighter of the day for firefighters in fitchburg. this is the an abandoned school building in fitchburg. the fire broke out overnight on academy street. no injuries reported.
