. >>> let's bring in mike bell, global market strategist now from jpmorgan asset management lovely to see you. first off, let's start with the u.s. context the treasury secretary's comments about tax reform seem to give the green light to the market but it means valuations are even more stretched now how do we approach u.s. equities >> i think the key thing, if you look at expectations for tax cuts, they're not in analysts estimates. there's been an assumption because 12-month forward earnings have earnings, they are lower today than before the election what happened is time has passed so they're looking at end of '18 estimates instead of 2017. if you don't get tax cuts delivered, they're not factored in and they shouldn't have a negative effect. if they are delivered, it potentially delivers upside. if they cut tax to 25% for corporates that would add an extra 4% on top of u.s. earnings, on temperature of what will already be healthy earnings growth the other key thing for u.s. equities, if you look at the economic surprise indicator, it's been in negative territory for quite some ti

joining us is mike bell, global market strategist at jp morgan asset management. good morning.ing, market reaction all to do with these tax proposals from donald trump being described as the biggest us tax overhaul in three decades. we have seen market rallying since november and expectation is on this announcement. what do you make of it all? since november, the markets have been going up because there is a big up in global growth, not because of expectations of tax cuts. investors around the world are very sceptical that donald trump will be able to pass any tax cuts, and if he does that provides an upside risks to markets, and if he doesn't, it is priced in. i don't think it is quite right to say that the market rally was driven by expectations of tax cuts because people don't expect that. it played a big part in the sense that people are expecting, of course hoping, that big corporate like apple will bring many back to the usa, and the impact that will have. and it is notjust about the tax cuts but the weakening of the regulation in the financial services sector, that kind

joining us from his office is mike l. -- bell. let me start with you. we have been very accustomed to getting headlines overnight and immediate reactions at the margin. then we recovered. market has to assume that given how dire an event it would be for north korea were to launch an attack, they are unlikely to do so. given if trump or to hit north korea, they would almost certainly retaliate. it's very much in the u.s. interest not to do that. they don't want to start a nuclear war in the region. they are assuming it's all talk and it will lead. david: you said you agree. alix: it is a knee-jerk reaction and then you recover. when would you need to take some risk off looking ahead? martin: i think we are still in a risk on environment. typically, this kind of environment is very stable as long as the economic conditions are the nine. could be a military escalation in north korea. that would change the volatility regime we are in. this is not very likely to happen. we think that the volatility we see is an opportunity to project risk in the work folio.
