let's switch gears and get a first look at your forecast with meteorologist janessa webb. morning, janessa. what are you seeing today? >> good morning, yasmin, good to see you. good morning, everyone. weed really had a change in the weather pattern over the east coast. it was kind of lueke that ah moment where fall temperatures innovated our space. that's going to be the case this week. a ridge of high pressure has built across the west. it's going stay in place for a few days and that will increase the fire danger we're seeing across the west coast. the excessive heat, we're going to see that for days. we're talking triple-digit territory with relative humidity across seattle all the way into the central u.s. it's down to about 10%. so we have firefighters that are really trying to contain all of the fires that we're seeing across this area, but due to the winds and the dry conditions, that will definitely continue. the jet stream is a little bit higher for the mid-atlantic all the way into sections of the northeast. and that will keep us on the cool side. we're still 38 d

let's switch gears here and get a first look at your forecast with meteorologist janessa webb. good morning to you, janessa. >> hey, good morning, yasmin. we had some pretty rowdy storms overnight. i've been watching them all night long. you can see them pushing offshore if you're across areas of the northeast. today is going to be spectacular for new york city, boston, washington, d.c., we have a dome of high pressure that's going to continue to build, and that's going to allow an abundance of sunshine this afternoon. i'm calling this one a perfect ten-day for areas of the northeast. now, on the other side of the country, pacific northwest, the heat continues to build. we did get an official reading for death valley. that happened on sunday. it did hit 130 degrees. beats a record over 90 years end, and that heat is going to continue to build. i did just check the forecast for death valley. it's currently 95. so people across southern california into the pacific northwest are really having a hard time cooling off as the overnight lows, they're not dropping below the 90 mark. so

nbc meteorologist janessa webb joins me. as i mentioned, the national hurricane center put out a forecast. what are we learning from this? >> you know, kendis, with this storm system, earliest named storm system, i-named storm system on record, good news, it is breaking apart. but we're watching the bahamas. just ten months ago we were talking about hurricane dorian, the strongest hurricane ever to hit that area, and it's currently impacting that area. with the latest track, as you said, the sustained winds have really picked up ten miles an hour to 85 miles an hour as it goes through the grand bahama. the tropical-force winds do extend and they will be impacting the coastal areas all the way into fort pierce to daytona beach, and that's going to linger all the way into sunday afternoon. this is really too close for comfort for me. this is a 20-mile difference where the eye of the storm is. that is a potential landfall. then when you look at the broad picture for the next few days, potentially across the islands to cape hatt

joining me with the latest, nbc news reporter chris pollone and nbc news meteorologist janessa webb. chris, we'll start with you. how are people preparing amidst a pandemic? >> reporter: yeah, hi there. i'll show you ohio they're preparing here at -- how they're preparing here at daytona beach. look at what they call the world's most famous beach. as you can see, people who live in this area are certainly taking this in stride. this is just like pretty much any other august day here in daytona beach, any other august saturday. some locals told me that the crowd does seem to be a little smaller than normal, that might be because of covid-19. that might be because of the impending hurricane. truthfully, many of the people i've talked to today don't really seem to be that aware about the hurricane or that concerned. i've been driving around, up and down highway a1a, and businesses that would normally be boarded up for a major hurricane are not boarded up. now, with that being said, we probably still have about 24 hours at least before we really start to get seeing some of that type of s

. >>> let's go to janessa webb who is joining me. what is the latest on the track of isaias? >> we're still bracing for impacts even though the storm system is still a little bit disorganized. in the last 24 hours, look how it has blown up on satellite. it is sitting in that warm water about 85 to 86 degrees, so it is still gaining momentum. the bands of moisture that are impacting parts of east florida today we'll watch for waterspouts, but it is this northeast graduaquadrant, it is off are and so we won't see a lawful for florida. but still it is coming in pretty good for daytona beach. we'll see a possibility of some tornadoes that will be picking up throughout the afternoon into your evening. now, the latest track, it continues to show it be well offshore for florida. and that is why tropical storm watches have been put in place. completely different story now as north carolina, south carolina, even parts of georgia are starting to prepare. tropical storm warnings have now been put in place. the reason for that, we are going to see with isaias the storm provide a good amo

it's approaching the united states right now and joining me is msnbc meteorologist janessa webb. i understand we got an update. what did you find out? >> yeah, we're seeing the disorganization of isaias. it's making its way across the grand bahama but already seeing one landfill. the storm system is really running into some drier air so we're seeing the national hurricane center putting out another update and you can see it's inching closer to the east and that's really good news for south florida. but still very close, this is about a 20-mile difference across daytona and then it continues into sunday afternoon. still potentially a category 1 hurricane, but right now it's very disorganized and losing its force. now, look at another potential landfill for charleston, south carolina and then even monday into tuesday it will race up to the northeast from new york all the way to boston. we're really going to be watching that going into tuesday for your wednesday as well. so even though we're not going to see landfill across miami, i know many people there on the beaches right now, t
