lori lightfoot says it has nothing to do with widespread looting in the area and she's announcing newsteps to protect businesses and neighborhoods. joining us is jason rand. thanks for coming on the show tonight. i know you're in seattle but i want to start by asking you about chicago because the city's mayor just announced a new social media task force aimed at trying to help the city monitor where the next looting may be in that city. do you think that will be effective. has seattle portland at any success with that? >> you have to be where 16-24-year-olds are. they do a lot of organizing on twitter, facebook, tick-tock and other places and why we are not dealing with intellectual heavyweights they are smart enough to realize when we put out a press release and you're going to be monitoring these sites they might change some of their behaviors. some kids will still decide to do this organizing online but you have to do more than simply going online and seeing their plans to see what this comes down to not just in chicago but seattle, portland, dc and across the country. when you fin

much of the downtown was looted, mayor lori lightfoot didn't lift a finger to stop any of it. of a sudden they come to her neighborhood, and protesters are banned. so isn't the message here you can commit crimes in chicago with impunity but not on my block? >> yeah, that's exactly right. it's rules for thee but not for me. and this is why there is such another great contrast among many between joe biden and president trump. joe biden, again, is too weak to stand up to the anti-police crowd. let's defund -- the defund the police train has left the democrat station, and joe biden is a hapless passenger on that train. you know, he has to support sanctuary cities, he has to refuse to enforce our immigration laws, he has to stand with the folks who want to cut police funding. in fact, he said, yes, absolutely, he agrees with redirecting funding. president trump says no more, we're not going to take this. we understand, we understand and support first amendment protests, peaceful protests. but when they cross the line into violence and when there's other violence happening in cities

in chicago, mayor lori lightfoot just got a letter from a property management company that representsore than 22,000 homeowners and 38,000 residents in her city. of the letter informed lightfoot of what you already knew. people don't feel safe in chicago anymore, too much looting, too much violence. residents across the city are adjusting their daily routines out of fear. "they are avoiding neighborhood walks at 6:00 p.m. at night, they don't stay too close to their windows. this is not a way to live and i can't fault homeowners when they tell me they are considering leaving chicago. "sad. but none of those observations are political, you have no idea who he voted for by hearing that -- they are obvious. this is called observed reality, it's true. lightfoot doesn't care, she blames faraway republicans for the disaster she created, keep in mind chicago has not had a republican mayor since 1931. in a way, that's why lightfoot is doing it, there are no republicans in chicago to complain about when she accuses him of causing gang murders. it's also crazy and stupid and counterproductive.

joining us now, the mayor of chicago, democrat lori lightfoot. former vice president joe biden on racial justice during night one of the democratic convention. and you pretty much said donald trump is carrying out a full-on assault of the integrity of the november election. first of all, do you think he can? do you think it's possible? i know there are many who are rushing back to washington, trying to get money to the postal service, but i'm still worried that he actually could. and if so, how? >> listen, i don't think we can put anything past him. he's seen he can't win the straight-up way by having the better ideas and motivating people to vote for him, so he is absolutely launching an assault on the postal system. my center issister is a postal . and the horrors of what's happening, taking the machine that processes mail out of their facility, creating fear among the workers there. that's just the postal service. but what he's also doing is creating a level of chaos that makes people fearful. let's start with where it really begins this year,
