. >> he was on with erin burnett. >> they arrived moments before the debate. the folks couldn't get up and leave. >> and someone went up to them and offered them masks and they said no. i would tweak two things on that. one, there are people at that super-spreader event and that just means that somebody there or a couple people there had a ton of virus in them. they were crazy contagious. doesn't mean that they were going to be residecrazy symptom. you can have a ton of virus in you and be asymptomatic or have mild symptoms or not come into the phase where you have heavy symptom aspects to you, yet. but that's what a super-spreader event is. i think there are a lot of people at that rose garden ceremony for judge coney barrett who fought the cdc guidelines. who fought to have them watered down. and it's not do as i say, not as i do. he has been telling people not to do it. don't wear the mask. it's a joke. the whole thing's a joke. >> you saw him today, though. what happened? >> now, he had a mask on. and now, they're all wearing masks and that is my hope. oka

i'm erin burnett. concerns about president trump's health are raising the stakes.t the universityrsity of utah salt lake city. it's going to be a high pressure debate. both vice president mike pence and senator kamala harris have to prove they have what it takes to fill that top job for the next four years, as running mates to the two oldest presidential nominees in american history. it's a stunning thing to think about this, how crucial this is. we expect the coronavirus and the trump administration's handling of it to be front and center during the face-off. it will be a 90-minute debate. the pandemic's impact obvious on the stage, as you see there. two plexiglass barriers have been put up to separate the candidates. the vice president's team challenged and even mocked those barriers before finally agreeing to them. all while more members of the trump/pence administration have been testing positive for covid-19. and i want to bring in anderson, who will be with me this hour. the debate commission has changed, enhanced the safety protocols since the president bill
