there's also sno along the bay area. some places are still dealing with damage from yesterday's wind storm. right now over 26,000pg & e customers are still in the dark across the bay area. most of those outages about 22,000 down in the peninsula 2,500 in the south bay. a winter storm warning goes into effect tomorrow night through sunday. words i don't say here too often. >> it's been 12 years since thi happened. this is literally a once in a decade kind of event for the bay area. >> unusual to be talking about this at all. very unusual to be talking about snow levels at 1500 feet which is what we're talking about. >> we are at grizzly peak which is at about 1,700 feet. this area is expecting snow to fall in the next couple of days. the last flurry was in 2019. but it is actually a pretty rare event >> the berkeley hills are very rare. but a snowstorm in the 1970s is one she remembers the most. >> we had a substantial amount of snow. we probably had 3-inches of something. >> maybe not that much snow ahead but it's likely

the north bay mountains as well. so all the highways through the higher elevations, you want to avoid those. for most of the bay arearom a half inch to over an inch of rain. a lot of that aimed at the southern end of the bay area , just where the second round of moisture will be aimed on friday night into early saturday. it will also be called. temperatures tonight dropping down into the 30s areawide. even downtown san francisco dipping down into the upper 30s for low temperatures. you want to get your dogs out for a walk tomorrow, pickle and lilac won't have a lot of sunshine to bask in tomorrow, but still, where the pups out tomorrow. it will still be cold and breezy. temperatures will not warm up very much. only upper 40s to around 50 degrees for highs thursday afternoon. our temperatures don't warm up very much through the entirety of the seven-day forecast. after the dry brick saturday afternoon and evening we are back into a shower pattern sunday, monday and tuesday before turning the calendar page from february to march. it is not going to matter. temperatures will still be below average. looks like we might

well the bay area's biggest mountain. em got a fair share of snow in the east bay, streams of people drove to mont diablo state park , hoping to see the winter wonderland atop 3800 plus feet of elevation, and there she is, one mother says she and her 14 year old son drove for an hour and a half out of alameda, only to be turned away at the gate, park officials say, six inches to a foot of snow made the park a special sight to see. but the frosty weather also closed roads because of hazardous driving conditions. we're drilling with drought stricken trees that are just getting dumped on by heavy snow that aren't used to holding up that kind of weight, so that could fall on a car if they're driving through the road, so we need to make sure that we're assessing. you know those kind of hazards before we open it up to the public. officials say the park will reopen sometime over the weekend if the weather permits, meanwhile, as surreal scene in the san bernardino mountains down in southern california, we want to show you this vid

daryl: the drop has been most dramatic in the bay area. the entire country is facing these high mortgage rates, but the unique situation the bay area has to deal with his remote work and tech workers, and tech valuations are down so that has a larger impact on the bay area. kristen: within the bay area, let's zoom in. are there certain areas that are faring better than the big cities? for example, are the suburbs holding their values? daryl: it is really about price point. so a modestly priced single-family home is going to maintain its value the best. there's more inventory of those smaller condo homes and people tend to prefer the single-family homes. that is why single-family homes that are moderately priced are doing better. for the bay area, moderately priced means closer to $1 million than $2 million. kristen: when people from other markets hear is talking about moderately range million to $2 million. have the $10 million homes slowed down in price? daryl: those have dropped more than any other kind of home. the $10 million homes in t

wet roads for most of the bay area. a cumulative snow will be over the higher elevations, 1500 feet. that is where we will be tracking the rest of tonight. shower activity elsewhere, up over the pacific ocean, there is snow falling in mountains of the north bay, the santa cruz mountains and santa clara hills. that will again spread out as the freezing line drops lower. waves of rain continuing to roll in for the overnight hours, and morning commute on friday. there will be problems in the higher elevation highways. off and on shower tomorrow afternoon. a break in the action before rain in the central valley will backup towards us by early saturday morning. that will take a break by late morning and we will dry out saturday afternoon, staying dry saturday night, but the next rainmaker will be moving in already. snow levels look like they will be quite a bit higher. how much snow are we talking about? enough to mess up travel conditions on highway 35, highway 17, highway 9 in the santa cruz mountains, the highest amounts w

but here in the bay area. this begins 10 a.m. sday until four p.m. on friday for the santa cruz mountains, the east bay hills portions of the north bay and you can see the projections around 3 to 4 to seven, possibly upwards of 12 inches, so the landscape will be changing quite a bit as a real, a strong surge of cold air and rainfall and snowfall that will be moving in, at least approaching by this time tomorrow. here's the radar imagery right now. some speckled cloud cover out here. sure sign that. we have cold air out in the pacific and some scattered rain showers out there not too widespread, but it's cold enough to produce some low elevation snowfall, possibly close to the sea level up in portions of the north bay, and it looks like we have some more activity approaching the peninsula. themselves kind of skirting parts of the coastline. it is a chilly afternoon. as you know, the temperature is right now in the forties and the fifties and, of course, the winds the big weather headline yesterday. it's not as windy as yesterday.

bay, a 43 miles an hour. as we head toward friday out the door right now getting cold around the bay area felt that if you walk outside almost like a slap in the face of that cold air out there today, 40's around the bay area. but we're getting ready for some very unusual weather. a few scattered showers begin to pop up outside right now. but more of that to come. in fact, they're very cold air. just a plunging from the gulf of alaska. we've got the chance for some very low snow levels around the bay area, probably down to 1000 feet and sticking. so as we get up in the morning tomorrow, probably going to see some snow showers up in parts of santa cruz and then maybe more of that as we head in toward thursday night and into friday. i think that'll be really the magic time for the storm system to bring some snow levels. the bay area, rain picking up as we head toward tomorrow afternoon. really get going tomorrow night and into early on friday morning. a look at that. all the colors there, the purple in the white that is snow falling across bay area mountains. you might even see some snow in your neighborhood whe

in the 30's in inland areas and only low 40's around the bay shoreline. let me take you to live doppler 7 and take a look at what is going on now. we have expanding areas of light to moderate rainfall, moderate to heavy in some spots you can tell by the darker and vivid colors and yellows. still snowing in many of higher elevations and snow levels down to 100 feet in some spots be on the storm impact scale, this is throughout much of the day, certainly the early part of the day, rain heavy at times and lower elevation snow, thunder, hail, and gusty wind. here is the forecast animation starting at 5:00 a.m. until 2:00, we have an active storm. it will ease a bit, snow showers become more widespread but they will be with us and it will be quite a cold day with high temperatures on a 50 degree mark. once you see mid to upper 30's inland, around the bay shoreline about 40 degrees and gusty wind everywhere south and east of the golden gate is gusty. it will get gusty or in some spots and the wind advisory remains in effect until 4:00 with gusts to 50 miles per

let's take a live look at the power outages across the bay area. not too many people out in the dark tonight. a few yellow spots. >> that anywhere from 50 to about 500 customers affected. a lot of people in the south bay, the peninsula, the city scattered in the east bay. and then as we look up yep, there's plenty up there, too, as well. napa, sonoma counties both have outages there. so a lot of people still in the dark. some have been out in the dark for a couple of days in calistoga. the power was out for almost 9 hours today. it went out about 3 o'clock this morning. it wasn't restored until noon kron four's rob nesbitt talked with the city's mayor about how generators might be used citywide during future outages. the power's back on here in calistoga. but many businesses stay closed friday after missing out on those morning hours. snow is common in the surrounding mountains, but here in the valley, it came as a surprise overnight. friday's early morning storm brought snow to the background of calistoga is palm trees. the top of cassandra daughte

the north bay. that is the pattern we have been seeing. this is about as low as the snow level will go for the north bay. however for the rest of the bay area, the east bay hills, the diablo range, santa cruz mountains, the snow level will continue dropping all the way down to the 1200-foot level. more moisture offshore. but this should be pushing through as we get toward the peak of rush hour tomorrow morning. more of a break in the action. plan on a slow commute and treacherous travel conditions in the north bay mountains and the santa cruz mountains. highway 9, highway 17. highway 35. all those will be sloppy. and more off and on showers through the day tomorrow. a little break in the action developing before showers back up toward us as we head into tomorrow night and early saturday. that shower activity will not last too long. we should be catching a break. here is the winter storm warning for all elevations above 1500 feet. that could drop all the way down to about 1200 feet. the amounts are going to vary wildly. on the rain snow dividing line. it will be the heavy wet snow. the higher you go, several inches of accumulation will occur

a lot of wind damage across the bay area. the high wind warning along the coast includes a sentences government a clock tomorrow morning. this is where the strongest gust will occur, 60 to 65 miles per hour, through sfo the wind gets funneled through the san bruno gap and accelerated more. the rest of the bay area is under a wind advisory through 1:00 p.m. tomorrow. at that point it is not like living a switch and every thing is calm. it will still be breezy. the strongest wind are likely happening right now. it is still something to monitor carefully. be prepared for power outages and further down the line prepare for snow in the higher elevations. rain chances will increase through the bay area. snow in the santa cruz mountains and santa clara hills. a winter weather advisory for the first batch of scattered showers. through 10:00 a.m. on thursday. don't ask but much in that timeframe, whether it is rain or snow in the higher elevations but still about 1500 feet, there is the potential for several inches of snow this week, o

the north bay. a lot of the moisture will be aimed at the southern half of the bay area.approaches two inches of rainfall in san jose. i think that that is probably overaggressive, but still anything more than an inch of rain if it falls in a short enough period of time could result in a little bit of standing water on the sides of the roads. then we have more rain in the forecast. once we get past a dry day and showers redevelop on sunday, continues into monday and tuesday of next weekend. once again the cold air will still be here so we will see lowering snow levels once again. in the short term we are waiting for all of us develop. it will be cold out there tonight. temperatures dropping down to the 30s across the board, even below 40 degrees in downtown san francisco to start the day and we don't want not much from there. temperatures in the upper 40s to around 50 degrees. again, in the cities of the bay area, which are mostly about 500 feet in elevation, temperatures will be significantly chillier, which is why we have the threat of accumulated snow at such relativel

our pete suratos is live for us in the north bay with the damage being done across the bay area. meteorologist kari hall has been monitoring these dangerous conditions. it's not just the wind we're talking about. it's also some of the freezing cold temperatures, too. >> we are going to have freezing temperatures tonight and even the possibility of some rain and snow over the next couple of days. but so far it's been the wind and dry conditions, and even our current wind gusts are still pretty high, near the coastline and in some of our hills. mount diablo, 39 miles per hour, and that's ongoing from the peak wind gusts we had yesterday evening that brought down a lot of trees and caused power outages. we do still have the high wind warning for the coastline and the rest of the bay area, a wind advisory, and that's where the winds could possibly reach 30 to 40 miles per hour into the afternoon, with higher gusts near the coastline. as we go toward 1:00 today, here is a look at those wind gusts that could reach 30 miles per hour, prolonged wind event like this could really weaken som

the east bay frost advisories. rhonda, good parts of the rest, the bay area. to be a cold start to the day tomorrow and some frosty conditions early on. i think by tomorrow afternoon we will begin to warm up just a little say we topped out in the low 50's around most of the bay area. tomorrow we may reach a couple low 60's in the santa rosa about 60 and sunny in the bottle. i think really clear skies all around the bay area tomorrow, a little bit breezy over the north bay mountaintops are going to see a bit of an offshore wind about 61 degrees in napa. 53 still cool in san francisco about 59 degrees in san jose over the next couple of days we go. a few more clouds begin to roll back into the bay area as we head in toward thursday. that's going to moderate the temperatures for overnight lows and also cooling down just a little. there's a slight chance we could see a shower rollback in on friday. but that storm does system doesn't look very impressive by saturday and sunday looks like we'll start to warm things back up. but long-range models are showing some ver

in many parts of the bay area. as we've got numbers soaring into the upper 60's in the santa rosa. 69 degrees. 68 in concord, 65 degrees. a little more. 62 in san jose, 61 in oakland, 60 in san francisco. these numbers by tomorrow going to be whole lot colder numbers dropping off around the bay area. now you've got a lot of 50's begin to pop up outside. 49 now the big bay. so a change in the weather pattern is a very cold system going to be dropping in the bay area from gulf of alaska that is going and only kick up the winds overnight tonight. it will also bring some very cold weather, maybe record cold tomorrow night in wednesday morning. right now, though, gusty winds. 41 mile an hour gust of the sfo this last hour. you got believe this. 26 in dylan beach got 19 mile an hour winds and snowmen. 22 in napa. so gusty around the bay area. now and we've got this week system to our north. that's going to be dropping in. that will bring with it. a chance of a few scattered showers and some cold temperatures rolling into
