so-called self help funding legislation was announced just a few minutes ago in sacramento by san francisco state senator scott weiner. it would raise bridge tolls to $8.50. that's a $1.50 increase. weiner says the funding will ensure transit agencies avert service cuts and improve cleanliness, reliability and safety. it will increase tolls by $1.50 over a five year period that will generate over five years about $900 million and will help us avoid cuts like bart ending weekend service or nighttime service or muni eliminating 15 or more bus lines entirely. now, if passed, the legislation would increase tolls on all bay area bridges except the golden gate. experts predict next week's 4th of july holiday could set new records, predicts 50.7 million americans will travel 50 miles or more from their home this year. that would break the record of 49 million set in 2019. most people plan to drive with aa, predicting 43.2 million will hit the road this friday is expected to be the busiest day on the roads. air travel is expected to hit records as well. more than 4 million expected to fly the busiest day
