the bay area heat wave is sticking around. meteorologist kari hall joins us to start our team coverage. a few degrees cooler, definitely still a hot one out there. >> yeah, especially for the inland valleys. we haven't had that heat along the coastline, but we are noticing a few other things that have been happening. i wanted to show you the past 24 hours where we had some showers and even some lightning strikes that popped up. and the concern was that some of that lightning without much rain could spark some new fires. so far, things have been fairly quiet. we're still watching for the effects of that as some of to these thunderstorms moved through parts of the north bay yesterday evenings and since then things have quieted down. then we look at our temperatures that are ranging from mid-60s in san francisco to low 70s in oakland, 80 in martinez, and 90 in vacaville, so there is quite a bit of a range there as you make your way across the bay area. that's been the case from the weekend and that continues today. although some

we are already seeing unhealthy air around the bay area. especially if you live in east bay or santa clara valley and are prone to airborne illnesses or diseases. something to watch out for. staying inside with a fan on that is the way to go on your saturday around the bay area. take a look at our microclimate. about a 30-degree difference. look at that. san francisco 73. fairfield 103 and livermore. 104 in concord and san martin, 90s in fremont, san jose and the peninsula looks okay. the next couple hours getting very warm. good idea that this positively summer event starts at 10:00 a.m. in san francisco. going to be comfortable out there. after this event, let's bring them back inside. going to be a very warm day. i want you to avoid giving dogs exercise during the peak of the heat. say from 11:00 to maybe 6:00 in the afternoon. good time to avoid being outside. give them a lot of fresh, clean water, and if you have any idea where to get cooling pads for a dog, let me know. i have some to take care of as well. never leave them in the car w

this is for the interior valleys across parts of the bay area.ant to show you a map so you know whether or not you're included. this will be in effect from now through 11:00 on sunday as our temperatures heat up anywhere from 90 degrees to 104. but we're also going to see lower humidity and increased fire danger, so during these hottest hours of the day, make sure you're drinking lots of water and taking care of yourself as well as pets. take a look at the range in temperatures here. we're still in the 50s in san francisco, but when you go to the north bay, it's in the upper 70s. and the farther you go inland, the hotter it is already at this hour. we're at 82 in martinez and 91 in vacaville. we're already seeing some low 80s in san martin. when you compare the temperatures now to yesterday at this time, it's up to 16 degrees warmer at this hour than yesterday, so the heat is ramping up. we're also getting some drifts of smoke coming in, so we are monitoring the air quality as ozone and pollution is added to the smoke that we're already seeing. s

a look around the bay area and our high temperatures for today, in the south bay we're seeing some cloudst it will clear out quickly. it will be breezy and 84 degrees for much of the peninsula, in the 70s today, morning clouds and warm temperatures in the tri-valley as we head for the upper 80s. for the east bay, mostly low 70s, while san francisco will see fog and drizzle at times, temperatures in the mid-60s. in the north bay reaching about 80 degrees. for santa rosa over the next several days, we'll go from nice and cool weather for the end of the week to a very mild weekend. ahead, we will see some higher temperatures going towards the middle of next week. so we're going to enjoy this dip in temperatures that we'll see that will not at all be like what we usually see for early july. and our temperatures are going to reach into the upper 70s for the inland areas for the next several days. for san francisco, expect our highs to reach into the low 60s. >>> let's get you ready for the morning commute. there really isn't much of one. across the bay area, looking at the san mateo bridge, a

then through tomorrow, it will just continue to filter down through the bay area. so we are looking at more of that here from the north bay down to the south bay. >> as the fire still burns, the smoke is going to keep drifting. are there parts of the bay area that have it worse than others? >> i do think those inland valleys. it's going to get trapped in there again. north bay, unhealthy for sensitive groups along with the east bay and the south bay. folks need to watch it if they have respiratory problems. near the coast and the bay, we'll still get that ocean breeze so it looks pretty good across the coast and also the bay. but on top of that, we've got those hot temperatures to deal with as we head into this weekend. >> what temperatures are we going to see? >> it's not going to be as hot as we saw in the last heat event. we're looking at 90 to 104. you've got to head out to inland, contra costa, alameda counties where those heat advisories are in effect. we'll see low humidity. but there's going to be spots to escape the heat. you go anywhere near the bay, the c

that smoke, i can, tomorrow, we will see it right here continuing to drift into the bay area. i do think with fifth day in a row of that smoke filtering in, it will get trapped in the valley, leaving us with some unhealthy air for sensitive groups in the north bay, east bay, and south bay. you might need to look at your outdoor exposure, not as bad for the coast and bay because we still have the ocean breeze. the heat, that will be with us but it is very isolated to the far inland valleys, especially in contra costa, alameda county. the tortures arranged 92 104. low humidity as well will also elevate the fire danger. i will show you where we get about 100 in my forecast coming up in about 15 minutes. >>> tonight, the mayor of oakland is avowing action after a rash of deadly violence in the city. yesterday, four people were shot and killed in three separate shootings. happened over the span of just 10 hours. last friday, you might remember an eight-year-old boy was shot inside of his family's car during a rolling gunbattle on 580. today, the mayor told us the city has new progra

you're watching kron. 4 news known. >> now at 9, another hot one across the bay area. today, residents getting outside to enjoy the sunshine. of course, the warm temperatures. but some areas got pretty hot, reaching the triple digits today. thanks for joining us for kron. 4 news at 9. i'm dan thorn kron 4 meteorologist mabrisa rodriguez. she's in the weather center and she's going to give us a look the temperatures and look at the forecast. a recent. yeah, let's take a look at just how hot it got today. it's unbelievable. but we did not break any records temperature wise, but >> those of you in livermore, certainly felt like it 105 degrees. 17 degrees above average when you should be in 88 degree range in concord, 102 degrees in santa rosa. also hitting that century mark with temperatures, 17 degrees above average when you should be in the mid 80's. so scorching hot inland. but downtown san francisco and most of the bay area coastline, no one complaining of the mild temperatures. 72 degrees, 6 degrees above average when we should be in the mid 60's this time of year. so

this is a live look from nbc bay area sky ranger right there. you see that entire area is blocked off right now as workers are out there trying to handle the situation. some sort of corrosive material spilled ton to highway 92 and right now people are being asked to shelter in place. cars are being diverted. let's take a look at the traffic maps. you can see that red, that orange, a lot of slowing out there today. traffic headed to the san mateo bridge backed up. and this is likely going to be a mess for quite some time. let's bring in velina jones. >> reporter: this scene looks very different than an hour ago when the hazmat team was here as well as the fire department. they have been able to get a handle on that spill and that spill is now contained. now the cleanup process starts in all of this. down there where there is a white truck is where this leak came from. as you said, this is a corrosive material code. sodium buy sulfate. that's used for cleaning products. and so we know that the truck was leaking this chemical and it came on to the g

bay area. beaches. 55 degrees at half moon bay. take a look at brett more than 40 degrees. warmer flirting with that triple digit heat still at this 8 o'clock hour for your saturday night at 99 degrees. pittsburgh, 96 degrees with concord in the low 90's in dublin, 94 degrees. fremont not that far behind. also in the low 90's and we're tracking triple digit heat for those of you in saint helene, widespread low to mid 80's. for those of you in the north bay temper on 77 degrees in point rays. no surprise there getting that cool acc breeze with temperatures in the upper 50's. so a lot cooler along the coast. but temperatures anywhere from about 2 to even 12 degrees warmer than where we were around this time last night. the winner, though, hayward, 13 degrees warmer. so we're certainly tracking that double digit heat. but what thing that we are noticing, though, along the coast, that fog bank out there right now, we are seeing the return of that marine layer. thanks to that cool sea breeze. temper
