the bay area heat wave is sticking around. meteorologist kari hall joins us to start our team coverage. a few degrees cooler, definitely still a hot one out there. >> yeah, especially for the inland valleys. we haven't had that heat along the coastline, but we are noticing a few other things that have been happening. i wanted to show you the past 24 hours where we had some showers and even some lightning strikes that popped up. and the concern was that some of that lightning without much rain could spark some new fires. so far, things have been fairly quiet. we're still watching for the effects of that as some of to these thunderstorms moved through parts of the north bay yesterday evenings and since then things have quieted down. then we look at our temperatures that are ranging from mid-60s in san francisco to low 70s in oakland, 80 in martinez, and 90 in vacaville, so there is quite a bit of a range there as you make your way across the bay area. that's been the case from the weekend and that continues today. although some

we are already seeing unhealthy air around the bay area. especially if you live in east bay or santa clara valley and are prone to airborne illnesses or diseases. something to watch out for. staying inside with a fan on that is the way to go on your saturday around the bay area. take a look at our microclimate. about a 30-degree difference. look at that. san francisco 73. fairfield 103 and livermore. 104 in concord and san martin, 90s in fremont, san jose and the peninsula looks okay. the next couple hours getting very warm. good idea that this positively summer event starts at 10:00 a.m. in san francisco. going to be comfortable out there. after this event, let's bring them back inside. going to be a very warm day. i want you to avoid giving dogs exercise during the peak of the heat. say from 11:00 to maybe 6:00 in the afternoon. good time to avoid being outside. give them a lot of fresh, clean water, and if you have any idea where to get cooling pads for a dog, let me know. i have some to take care of as well. never leave them in the car w
