mark meredith joins us plow the white house. igh, steve and griff good morning to all three of you. president biden and his family came back to the white house from camp david to enjoy the festivities, a picture perfect night at the capitol but this morning more questions about who's coming in and out of the white house after cocaine was found in the west wing. now, the president nor his staff talked about this last night during the celebration. cameras spotted the first family including the first lady and first son hunter biden there in attendance but it appears these drugs were discovered on sunday while the president was away. they were found in a work area of the west wing. the secret service put out a statement on tuesday, a spokesperson writing, the dc fire department was called to evaluate and quickly determine the item to be nonhazardous. the item was sent for further evaluation and an investigation into the cause and manner of how it entered the white house is spending. we'll continue to watch it. this morning also watch

correspondent mark meredith has the latest tonight from the white house. >> it is deeply frustrating.> south carolina congresswoman nancy mayes says she is dumbfounded the secret service was unable to determine who brought cocaine into the white house. >> this is one of the most secure locates in the world with some of the best law enforcement officers in the world and they don't have any answers. >> for the past 11 days investigators say they reviewed security footage, access logs and physical evidence trying to trace how narcotics got into the west wing but they say after both fingerprint and d.n.a. testing came up short, the investigation is now closed. in a statement, the secret service says, quote. >> . without physical evidence, the investigation will not be able to single out a person of interest from the hundreds of individuals who passed through the vestibules where the cocaine was discovered. some lawmakers say investigators never went far enough. >> my question to them was: have they drug tested this list of 500 potential suspects that brought an illegal substance, a drug,

first to mark meredith who gets us up to speed. >> the mystery of who brought cocaine in the west wing will go on even though the official investigation has wrapped up. the secret service says they're unable to figure who brought the drugs. at this point they don't know where they came from. this started back on july 2. it was a sunday evening when the secret service discovered powder in a west wing entrance. staffers use these places to hold items. the white house family was not at the white house. they were at camp david. the secret service says there was no surveillance video footage that found any leads or any other evidence to identify who may have deposited the found substance in this area. today secret service officials were on capitol hill briefing house lawmakers on what they learned. reaction was split on this briefing. >> i would like answers. it just seems like any time we have any questions about any unsavory activity around the bidens, nobody can provide an answer or not. someone always ends up lying. >> if there were a small amount found in the capitol complex, we would

let's get to mark meredith live on the north lawn as we wait. secret service have any ideas as to how it made its way inside the white house? >> somebody physically brought it in but secret service says they are trying to determine who it was. as you mentioned, the white house briefing set to get underway here any moment announcement i imagine a lot of different questions to white house officials about not only what happened but the procedures in place and also hearing in the last hour from arkansas republican senator tom cotton, demanding answers from the chief of the u.s. secret service, he wants to know how often it happened, how screening takes place and if they have a better idea to ensure the security here at the white house is not compromised. secret service official told me they were able to confirm through secondary testing the substance found on sunday was cocaine. it was believed to be but secondary tests should be sure. a brief evacuation, but then the president and his family, you know, the majority of people working in the white ho
