damian trujillo nbc bay area news. meantime, new legal action against the trump administration as it takes aim at so-called sanctuary cities. local governments across the u.s. are joining san francisco and santa clara county in taking legal action against the trump administration. it all started when president trump signed an executive order aiming to stop federal funding to so-called sanctuary cities. in response, santa clara county and san francisco sued the administration for that action earlier this month. sanctuary cities have laws that prevent undocumented immigrants from being deported or prosecuted. now, a total of 16 local jurisdictions have joined this lawsuit. that includes san jose, oakland, santa cruz, and emeryville. and it sends a messssage to the courts that, yu know, there are a lot of local governments that are really feeling the pain here, that that they are worried about their ability to care for people, to care for families. minneapolis, santa fe and seattle have also joined the lawsuit. overall, l

we're going to begin in london with nbc's megan fitzgerald. so, megan, the uk prime minister, gathered 19 world leaders for an emergency ukraine summit, notably without the us. what came of this meeting? >> well, you know, alex, this was certainly a strong show of unity, showing that european allies and canada are united around ukraine. certainly in light of what we saw in the oval office on friday. you know, there's an understanding that the stakes here have never been higher. and now is the time for european allies and along with the united kingdom, to take the reins in leading the free world. and so what came out of this meeting today, according to prime minister keir starmer, is that the uk, france and others will work together with ukraine to try and figure out a plan to stop the fighting. they will then present that plan to president trump. we don't know a timeline on when that's going to happen, but that came out of the meeting along with creating something called the coalition of the willing. so starmer says that this is european allie

this is nbc bay area news tonight. i am garvin thomas we start with an oval office shouting match that's sending shockwaves across the globe. now, what started as a photo opportunity in anticipation of a deal on mineral rights between president trump and ukrainian president volodymyr zelensky, devolved into a contentious barrage of insults and accusations. now you're looking at zelensky leaving the white house not long after the meeting. the trump administration says they kicked him out with no deal. as with no deal. a scheduled lunch and press conference also called off. the two met in the oval office, along with vice president j.d. vance, to talk about a potential rare earth mineral deal. the white house is presented that deal as an important step for a peace deal between ukraine and russia, but a shouting match started after vp vance suggested more diplomacy between russia and ukraine. zelensky countered, saying russia can't be trusted to honor any peace deals. things got even more fiery from there. you will feel it

and joining me from rome, we have nbc's claudio lavanga.ope's condition is complex. is there any clarity on what that means? >> hey, alex. well, essentially. >> what it means is. >> that the pope is not out. >> of danger yet. they also, the doctors said that his clinical condition, his prognosis remains guarded, which means exactly that. but at least there are some fairly reassuring news out of the vatican, as you mentioned, especially compared to what they came out yesterday, that respiratory respiratory crisis he suffered from on friday. now, theus about an hour ago, the vatican said that the pope's clinical condition remains stable. he did not have any more of those respiratory crises. he has no fever. his white blood cells count is in the norm, meaning there is no sign of an infection and that he continues his oxygen therapy. also in the morning, the vatican said that he woke up, he had breakfast, he read the newspapers and even went to the private chapel in the hospital apartment to pray for about 20 minutes. so fairly reassuring news
