in alameda county 71% yes, 29% voted no. this measure had the toughest time in contra costa county. still, 60% of voters said yes. 40% against. a $3.5 billion bond measure paid for by property owners so houses worth $500,000 would pay $45 per year every year until 2064, money will go to upgrade the aging system fixing tracks tunnels and stations. statewide california voted in favor of more gun regulations, 62% voted in favor of stricter laws while 37% voted against these laws they would require a background check to purchase ammunition and prohibit looming large capacity magazines. making it a crime to not report lost or stolen guns and provide the process for taking guns away from people when they are convicted of a felony. lieutenant governor gavin newsom created the proposal he calls the vote historic progress to reduce gun violence. >> an unprecedented amount of money pouring into california races. >> almost $500 million spent on stage props this election the number one contributor the hedge fund manager spending $13 million most on prop 56. sean parker donated almost $9 million

about the same percentage in alameda county. ection officials we have talked to across the east bay say it is the trend in many bay area counties. 65% of voters in contra costa and alameda counties requested mail-in ballots this year. election workers started their day at 5:30 this morning and already started scanning the early ballots. they won't tabulate the results until 8:00 tonight. some of the important issues on the ballots in the east bay, measure rr to give bart additional funding. we have heard people say they are following a lot of the local races and elections. but janine de la vega who is in the south bay this morning in san jose is taking over our election coverage from over there. janine. >> reporter: in santa clara county, they are expecting 80 to 85% voter turnout. let's look what it looks like inside. earlier this morning at 7:00 a.m., there was a line of people waiting to go vote. so it looks like here there are several people voting. there are actually two precincts being represented here at the polling place.

people who are hospitalized in alameda county on election day can still vote this year. hospital volunteers will distribute voters ballots to patients. then they will pick up the completed ballots and deliver them to the polls on election day. . >> a former alameda county prosecutor is being prosecuted himself. police say they caught him in a motel, linked to sex trafficking. nbc's marianne favro joins us with the details. >> reporter: a former alameda county district deputy attorney was one of eight men solicited for prostitution. the sting happened at a heyward motel in october. the goal of the undercover operation, was to arrest prostitutes and male customers and rescue potentially exploited children. the heyward police department just issued details of the sting this afternoon, after the eight men arrested were formally charged in court, facing a variety of charges. >> it could be anything from pimping to soliciting prostitution. it's generally those kind of things much. >> kevin talked about his experience as a former alameda county deputy d.a. on his professional website. nbc bay area has learned that he was a deputy d.a. for two years starting back in 1988. we reached out to his law firm for comment. they said that he was out of town, and could not comment. and his staff also declined
