abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live in sebastopol. this started with a tip from a citizen, amy? >> reporter: the sheriff's department just released new details explaining why deputies shot a woman here just outside of sebastopol. you can see officers are still here on the scene. the santa rosa police department has now taken over the investigation. they first got a call at 11:45 that someone was driving backwards on southbound 101 near windsor. officers caught up with the driver about five minutes later and say that the driver a woman, was driving recklessly and refused to stop. they followed her here where she stopped but officers said she would not surrender. as deputies approached the car they say that she drove her car in reverse toward the officers hitting three of them and a patrol car and that is when several deputies fired at her. they fired several rounds. they hit her more than once. they said in the press release it was an undetermined number of times that she was shot. she was taken to the hospital and officers say they do

amy hollyfield is at the scene with an update at 5:30. >> today many criminal cases in one east bay city have to be reexamined after a liver was arrested for buying heroin. to top it all off he is accused of doing so with his two-year-old in the car. the officer is in court this morning. >> kenneth white will appear at the half justice at 9:00 this morning accused of buying cocaine and heroin if san francisco. this happened last wednesday. the police received a tip and had undercover san francisco police officers check it out. that is when they say they saw officer white buying drugs on the corner of 7th and howard. white thousand is charged with possess of narcotics weapons and child endangerment. he had a loaded gun in the same car his two-year-old daughter was sitting in during the drug transaction. white is a resource officer at the school and they were shocked to learn the news. >> i am adamant to make sure people with work in our system are putting student safety first and that means high level of personal accountability. >> we want them to know this occurred and they have -- we wa

abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live with more. >> reporter: here is an indication of how sad aay it will be for victims. classmates look at the flowers and balloons someone has left here at the front door of timber elementary school. this community is really hurting. now look at the memorial at the boy's home. it is made up of flowers, candles and teddy bears. this is where the 9-year-old was stabbed to death yesterday morning. police believe the victim knew his killer. this is the man they arrested for the murder 18-year-old william schultz. police have not said what the motive was behind the killing. they believe schultz is friends with one of the victim's siblings and had spent the night at the family's home. residents in this quiet discovery bay neighborhood say this is tough to comprehend. >> it's so out of the blue. as long as we have lived here as long as we have had kids half the time we wouldn't lock our doors. we weren't worried about anything happening here. so this has just been shocking. and, of course to have it happen to a child is just completely heartbreaking.

our reporter, amy hollyfield, joins us from the scene. amy? >> we are told that the victim is a 29-year-old pipe layer and he worked with the construction company and was crushed by a pipe that was rolling down the hill. he tried to stop it and he could not. it happened at 7:30 this morning along highway 101 at petaluma. the work being done here is a key part of preparing to wide were the highway to three lanes in each direction. we are set back from the freeway by 100 yards and there is a fence lining the perimeter and that stopped the pipe. officials say they don't know why he tried to stop the pipe. they say he did try to stop it, though he saw it coming and that probably was a kneejerk reaction. but it was too heavy and as it was rolling down the hill cal osha will investigate. train will investigate, too, saying the only comment they can give us is that their heart goes out to his family. at this point they have not released the victim's name but say he has been with the company for 8 1/2 years. >>> thank you. marine scientists have just

amy hollyfield has the details from fairfield. >> reporter: what a morning for 8-year-old brock guzman. he was asleep in the family car when someone stole it. he was found safe and he told his parents he wasn't scared but his parents were terrified. >> just distraught all morning and for the first time i didn't know if my son was okay. >> reporter: it happened at 4:45 this morning. suzanne guzman was about to leave to drive brock to his school in napa and her husband thought he'd help her get a head start on the day. >> the car for the wife and for the kids, and i walked inside as she was getting ready to put her shoes on and walk out and it was 30 seconds and the car was gone. suzanne guzman saw a bike in the front yard that doesn't belong to anyone in her family and she knew right then her car and child had been taken and brock did wake up and surprised his abductor. >> he was asleep in the car and when he woke up and when he woke up the guy said he didn't know he was in the car and pulled over and the boy went back to sleep. >> by then police had widely issued an amber alert. >> we

amy hollyfield joins us with the victim's story. amy? >> yes, i just met with the victim. she is doing better. her spirits are up. she is familying okay. she said she does not want her name or her face or her address shown on tv. she is still afraid of her attackers. >> how is your family? scared? >> well... [ inaudible ] >> the 82-year-old grandmother showed us her extremely bruised arm and said she was in intense pain the first two nights, so much pain she could not sleep. she is sleeping now and the pain has subsided. he is very grateful for her nape's surveillance video that captured attack and hopes to find the police who did this. they grab the woman's purse from her and she goes to the car and reaches into the car to get it back and they take off dragging her with them. she then falls to the ground. the camera unfortunately did not capture the license plate. this happened on saturday morning in oakland's diamond district. police say they are still working the case and we will continue to follow up with them and bring you updates as they develop. >> a fremont family

amy hollyfield is in san francisco. we are talking a lot of money. fine them more than $1 billion. the new president at the p.u.c. is questioning how that punishment will be and how safe pg&e can be in the future. the fine is for causing the explosion in san bruno that killed eight people in 2010. today, the p.u.c. will listen to public comment before handing down the punishment but the president said that peg makes so much money that he worries the utility can shrug off the fine. he wants his staff to look into the possibility of recovering corporate bonuses to executives as a form of punishment. he is concern about pg&e's size and the ability to be safe in the future. pg&e responded to the concerns to the associated press by issuing a statement saying "it has redoubled its safety training changed top executives and made its natural gas system safer." today's meeting is scheduled to start at 9:30. >>> thank you, amy. east bay mud said it could take days to clean up cement that spilled into a creek in oakland

our reporter, amy hollyfield is at shattuck with more on the story. amy? >>> good morning. police are looking into whether there was a shoot out. whether the victims also, fired their guns. you can see why they are thinking that is a possibility. look at all of bullets that are marked here as ever at shattuck with in word on who do this. they are still looking for arrests to be made. two men were taken to the hospital at 1:fry this morning at shattuck. some surrounding buildings were hit. there is a gas station. there are homes. there is a spa here. police say no one else was injured just the two men who were inside the car who pulled in to the gas station and they much taken to the hospital but it appears they were going to survive the injuries. no word on the motive. police are city investigating that. police still have a lot of work to do and thing they will be here for a while and are advising people to avoid shattuck. they have brought in traffic control officers to try to help people detour. if you can avoid the area, that is good advice. >>> happier news: the 2014 wo

bart safety is a story from amy hollyfield. >> this is a station rather than cruising through here atr hour they will slow you down to 18 miles per hour. this is curing to a report in the "san francisco chronicle" say that officials are worried about this happening. derailments. they have had two here at concord in the last five years. they are worried that it will happen again and they believe deteriorating tracks are to blame and could cause another accident so they have come up with a dozen spots where they will slow down trains until they can come up with a permanent fix which is expensive. some passengers point out that bart is facing other costs. >> they are spending a lot of money buying new cars and they are trying to repair the tracks the best they can. i would rather not go off the track if they have to slow down, that is fine. >> the system is 42 years old and needs updating. officials have already started work define oakland coliseum and fruitvale stations and they will shut down the elevated areas to work on it. according to the report this is the going we will be seeing

amy hollyfield they have uprighted the truck? >> they have. what is miserable for the drivers northbound 680 all have been blocked for at least 30 minutes. people are just sitting. on the freeway. it is very frustrating to the commuters. the latest is they are trying to move it enough to re-open that one lane. when it first jackknifed it blocked all but one lane so some cars got through but when the tow truck operators arrived he took the final lane. now it and blocking everyone. not a good situation northbound 680. the driver is okay. no other cars were involved. that is the good news. they do not have a mess to clean up. nothing was spilled. he was changing lanes and jackknifed. a couple of hours now into this and, still, for relief on northbound 680 at north mission in fremont an area to avoid of the rain is still coming down and has been for hours and it is wet out here and the backup will take some time to clear. they are hoping to open up a lane soon and get this towed out of the here maybe in 30 minutes or an hour but it is "to be deter

abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live with more on this story. >> reporter: it's still an active scene here in sonoma county. they've got crime tape up here. look at how far back they are keeping us from the investigation. investigators are tucked back in the business area where you see an antique society here, bumble bee farms, a bakery and cafe the scene is far from where we are. there are reports that one person was shot by officers following a chase. this because it's outside city limits, this is a sonoma county sheriff's case. we reached out to the sheriff's office and we're not getting comments at this time. they've been referring uses to their public information officer who has not returned our calls and e-mails. a police officer just told me that he's hearing that the sheriff's office is working on a press release right now and should be getting us more information later this morning. this did just happen around midnight and they are still processing the scene so this story is still developing. we'll stay on it through the morning and bring you updates when we get them so

amy hollyfield has a report from golden gate park at the bottom of the hour. >> 2-year-old colorado businessman said marijuana is the ticket to becoming the next facebook c.e.o. mark zuckerberg. he has launched a free social media network where users can share pictures of post and place on where to bay it. it is legal only in 23 states where a form of pot is legal including california because medical marijuana is legal. since launching a few months ago mass roots has raised $1.5 million and gained 275,000 users and they hope to hit a million users this year grow as localizing pot is more popular. >> an attorney for a sheriff will ask a judge to remove a domestic violence misdemeanor conviction from the sheriff's record. he notes that his three year probation ended march 19 and he successfully complies with alters without a problem. people convicted of misdemeanors routinely have climbs expunged officer the record if they stay out of trouble. he was arrested in 2012 for bruising his wife's arm during an argument. the video showing the injury was given to police would lunched a criminal express.
