amy hollyfield joins us at the station with more on the opening. amy: it just opened, no one is using it yet. they might think it is too good to be true. it certainly is going to change lives here in fremont. you can build a brand-new station, this one built in 2017 but you have to have access to it. this bridge is going to create the access that so many need. it connects the station to the innovation district where there are a lot of technology companies, including tesla. more are popping up and those people need a direct path to bart. before they had a railroad track in between that district and also some homes and the bart station. they would have to go around the railroad track and it was a mess. building the bridge happen for these people. it was not easy, there were delays and it was supposed to open in 2018. this opening comes when ridership is way down for a bart. they are nowhere near their pre-pandemic levels. the hope is that as people decide to return to bart, they will be grateful to find a better station and access here, and they will

amy hollyfield is live this morning. amy: oil prices are on the rise this morning and the concern is that will trickle down and impact us at the pump with prices already looking high, close to five dollars a gallon, even premium tipping over five dollars a gallon. now the concern is that will go even higher. we know california already has some of the highest prices in the country. here's a look at the average price per gallon compared to the national average. we are about $1.20 higher than the national average. prices are already the highest they have been since 2014. how supply disruptions, because of the invasion, could drive prices higher. analysts say one thing you can do is to try to keep your prices down, try to get away from the big cities when you are filling up. include using cruise control on the highway. that tends to save 20% of your gas. also philip at the beginning of the week. analysts say generally they find gas prices are lowest at the beginning of the weekend tend to go up as the week was on. rcs at one

amy hollyfield was at carl monk elementary school. that is one of the schools on the list of possible closures. kids at carl monk school in oakland started their day today with a lesson in advocacy. they gathered with their parents teachers and principal before class this morning and made some noise speaking out against a plan to close their school. this school is important to me because here for five years and i and it was very fun. and i do not want to leave the school to hear that. they're considering closing the school and all of the uniqueness that it has is really difficult. carl monk is on a list of more than a dozen schools to close or merge in a plan to save up to 14.7 million dollars. the school district says enrollment is down and they need to consolidate saying they can no longer support 80 school buildings in oakland monk for example has 200 students that has the capacity for 300. the parents say closing these schools would do more harm than good and with this school in particular they are not taking into account. how sta
