all of the anacostia and river crossings are fine. next report, we'll take a look at the bw parkway at 4:39. >>> egypt's former president hosni mubarak is being kempt alive by life support, this after the 84-year-old suffered a stroke in prison. a military official described his condition as very critical. >> this news comes after at least 50,000 protesters suffered into cairo's square chanted slogans. susan mcginnis has more on the whole thing. >> reporter: initial reports of the death of hosni mubarak sparked celebrations in cairo's square but they were later confirmed to be wrong. the 84-year-old is not dead but is on life support and in critical condition. mubarak was rushed to this military hospital after suffering a stroke in prison. a small group of supporters gathered outside. mubarak was sentenced in june to life in prison for failing to stop the killing of hundreds of protesters during an uprising last year. mubarak's decline comes with egypt in a precarious transition of power. sunday's election

that is the anacostia. it speeds up through here. it's also dangerous as teens found out last night. take a look at the scene. three teens had to be rescued as they were swept from the banks of the anacostia at about 7:15. taking in all its fury. then the river took them in. they managed to cling to the bridge supports and call for help. that's when prince george's county fire and rescue came to the rescue. it was a swift water rescue. they used boats, ropes and ladders to get to the teens. it was a scary time for them as we hear from the fire spokesperson mark brady. >> they were getting a little anxious down in the water. they kept after a period of time saying hey, what's happening? to see a situation where three young lives could have been swept away at a moment, it's scary. >> reporter: now, we understand those teens were taken to the hospital for observation. but any number of things could have happened to them. they are very lucky today. hypothermia conditions could have set in. and of course there is always the issue of drown

the an costa river -- anacostia river has also sewage.is taking place due in no small part because of the clean water act. these rivers are affected by runoff from streets and parking structures. i want to pause here for a minute because all of us here in this capitol receive our water, our tap water and our drinking water, from those waters that i'm talking about in the anacostia and potomac, keep that in mind, members of congress, when you are drinking a glass of water. it's one of the many reasons i favor public transportation, and bike riding. our air and water are protected when we make smart transportation decisions and i have to say in this congress we haven't made a single smart transportation and jobs decision in this congress since the republicans took over. but it's why i support a bipartisan and senate passed m.a.p. 21 and hope conferees agree to a report that reflects the priorities in that bill because that's about protecting our drinking water. so let's be clear about what's at stake. the clean water act protects almost 60%
