meteorologist belen de leon joins us as well. belen, hopefull it'll be a little calmer the man who has admitted to killing three people at a colorado springs planned parenthood will be back before a judge today. the courtdate for robert dear this morning is a statu he is expected to be there -- unlike in his last hearing -- where the judge said dear is mentally incompentent to continue with the case. he's been undergoing treatment at a state medical facility since may. dear is charged with 179 counts stemming from that planned parenthood shooting last november. he said he attacked the clinic because of his anti-abortion stance. after five students were kicked out of school for posting in an anti-semitic facebook group -- boulder prep high school says the posts in the neo- nazi facebook group were derogarty and threatening. the group called themselves "the fourth reich official." one high schooler in the group pledged allegiance to the nazis -- then took his own life last month. another member of the group was the one to notify th

belen is here in the weather center. so you have a lot of tools you use to track a hurricane like that. >> the most widely known tool is radar. and this is able to show what's happening ground level so we can see where the rain is falling currently. the rain bands affecting georgia and the carolinas as the center of matthew is expected to make landfall tonight. and then we have tools able to take measurements from space. satellite shows us things that radar can't, for example, the cloud shield that covers most of florida and the mid-atlantic coast. and then a very neat but dangerous way of obtaining it flies into the eye wall of the hurricane, not once, but several times. and here is video of what it looks like inside the plane where you have men and women trained to fly in these very turbulent conditions. and they are gathering information like movement on the hurricane, also the pressure, what it's like right in the center of the hurricane. that establishes whether the hurricane is weakening or strengthening. a very im

meteorologist belen deleon joins us now-- with more on that. a challenge will these winds today pose for firefighters? the junkins fire now spread into pueblo county. it's burning in an area west of pueblo and walsenberg and east of westcliff. fire crews tell us the area hasn't had a fire like this in about 140 years-- that means there is a lot of fuel to burn-- and that's what's prompting all of the evacuations. as we mentioned 175 home have already been told to get out. today-- three-thousand others in pueblo are being told to get ready to they're watching the winds today-- and preparing for the worst. >>> this fire is just one of three burning in southern colorado right now. in eagle county -- the freeman fire still burns. it's only 40-percent contained. all of this-- after crews finally got th under control. but not before the flames got to five- thosuand acres. one day ahead of the final debate-- donald trump will be in colorado today for two stops in grand junction and colorado springs. the visits comes one day after his son-- donald trum

belen deleon is in the 9news backyard. you got to pinch me and remind me it's fall still. >> it is. yes, it's beautiful outside right now, but we do have some concerns in your forecast. as you guys mentioned earlier in the newscast, we were talking about that brushfire in elbert county and the month it has been a really dry one across the state. let's look at that drought monitor. our northern mountains into el paso and elbert county is where we currently have abnormally dry conditions and in some patches moderate drought conditions. so we certainly do need that rainfall. those winds have been gusty at times up to about 20 miles per hour around the front range, also in the foothills near the divide and the mountains and be in effect just a little longer until 6 p.m. because the gusts out there have been ranging up to 45 miles per hour. now temperature-wise our normal high for this time of year is 68 degrees, but our temps today are running about 10 or so degrees above that. 70s around town right now, 80s for our friends in greeley and higher elevations temperatures currently in the

belen deleon has more. >> we have a warm-up headed our way by the end of the week. let's look at the forecast because from yesterday highs in the upper 70s. today our temperatures are about 11 degrees cooler than just 24 hours ago. so that is different. another thing, cooler air wrought us higher humidity so that is helping with fire danger across colorado. it's not as high as what it over the weekend. thankfully. we have rain and we have a little snow in higher elevations. here's a look at the wet roads along wolf creek pass and those light showers are currently falling around areas in the roaring fork valley. they have let up closer to the foothills. looks like northeastern colorado is seeing a little bit of rain as well. with some of those darker clouds but these clouds are going to be bark, not a lot of bite. any rain we see is going to be on the light side, maybe up to that is the rainfall amount through the next 24 hours. if you're outside the city though i like this, the clouds, i like that you can see still a bit of fall in the camera outside of our studios.

meteorologist belen de leon is -- becky ditchfield is in the 9 backyard. we are expecting it to be even warmer as we head into the day. >> reporter: when talking about the warm temperatures, we're also going to talk about dry, sunny conditions that we have here and our winds picking up steadily, becoming very windy as we get into the start of next week. we have seen wind gusts already today. some breezes out there. it hasn't been terrible for the denver metro area but some places seeing gusty conditions. we are very dry for the western here's a look at the wind gusts. strongest gust will be at castle rock. not bad. out to our west is where they are the strongest. 18 miles per hour gusts around the red feather lakes and allens park is seeing 15 miles per hour gusts. now down to our way south, we have a red flag warning. this is going to be in effect from noon tomorrow through 7:00 p.m. tomorrow. er miles per hour gusts and relative humidity down to 13%. this area does not cover where we are seeing that fire up near that finery. this is in southern colorado.
