in a parking lot, but slowly i realized biking is a great way to get around in san francisco. i had some good allies that taught me how to ride in the streets and now it's half of my main mode of transportation. so i feel that on the bac i could really serve as an advocate for multi modal transportation. i first heard about the seat opening on the bac through the bicycle coalition news letter and it piqued my interest but when i talked to someone on the committee who informed me there are only men currently on the committee i knew i had to change that by applying. so not only do i feel i could advocate for multi modal transportation users, people who are maybe otherwise afraid to get on their bikes but could do so with the right encouragement but also women who have specific challenges with biking, i think i could be a good representative for all of those. >> great thank you. and if you can just speak a little bit about are there any specific goals that you'd like to achieve if you are able to be appointed to this committee or like to see the committee take on that they curren

it's critical in order to accomplish that that we address bike theft. i think when people are confident the bikes won't be stolen they're more likely to ride and eases congestion and makes park for those that choose to drive and encourage multi-modal transportation that is sustainable for the city. in a budget from two years ago the value of bike thefts was estimated to be over 4.5 million in the city. i think then the safe bikes program and launched by sf safe in partnership with my office great police officers like matt friedman and the police department and the bicycle coalition we made significant gains in reducing bike theft and attracted national attention for the model in our city. i think the program combines focused police work and education and a new registration program to detour theft. one year after launching the program thefts are down 10% in the city but secure bike parking as supervisor avalos knows from legislation he's passed is another critical piece of the puzzle and i think this grant helps fund the installation of a number of elect
