beaches and boardwalks crowded for the first holiday weekend after weeks of isolation. pete muntean is in ocean city this morning, pete, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, erica. this is a situation that we will avery to watch as it develops. i want to show you a couple different factors at play because it is not much of a beach day. it is cold, 55 degrees out, windy, a little bit of rain, easy to social distance out there on the beach, but i want to compare that to the boardwalk, the city actually says the conditions here are actually working a bit against them, maybe pushing people onto the boardwalk where it's easy to social distance so long as you're paying attention. i want to compare this scene to what it looked like on saturday, other different factors at play, a warmer day, 85 degrees out and sunny. the mayor of ocean city rick meehan hells me the situation is challenging. it was more crowded on saturday. the city is urging folks to social distance, maintain six feet of separation, urging folks to wear masks, police reminding people to follow the policies.

now, you can maintain about six feet of social distancing here on the boardwalk. a destination for folks. the reason why, i'll show you images from yesterday. 80 degrees out. warm and sunny. not as windy, either. the boardwalk has been open the last couple of weeks here in ocean city and city officials say they're recommending folks wear masks. they are recommending that folks social distance. they are trying to enforce those policies the best they can, and they're watching images like yesterday and today, and they will tomorrow, to make sure they're not in a position where they have to close down the boardwalk again. the city says they're doing everything it can, putting up signs here telling folks to social distance. actually, these benches out here along the boardwalk, every other bench has a 2x4 on it to block people from being too close to one another. officials here in ocean city, maryland, say the city's done its part. now it's on folks to do their part. fredricka? >> all right. pete montine, thank you so much from ocean city, maryland. >>> all right. now t
