alix: so what is the policy mistake that the boe is at risk of making here?abrice: it is forecasting a negative output gap in three years. it is forecasting an unchanged rate at 2%. if you tell me they are preparing to hike, that is a policy mistake. i don't understand how the calls for modest tightening is consistent with their forecast of the output gap being negative at the end of their forecast time. so while i understand there is a natural bias, especially with the bank of england, to have an upward sloping rate expectation curve, and there is a natural bias to be quite optimistic towards the back end of their forecast, the more you talk about what has been said today, the more you look into the details, the more inconsistencies you can see. this one, having a negative output gap and still calling for a hike, is one i still don't understand. guy: we talked the mechanics around the structure of rates that the bank is talking about. previously, there was an indication that we wouldn't see any action on the balance sheet until we got yields, rates up to 1.5
