let's bring in points guy founder brian kelly. rian always good to talk to you about travel and the big question right now it seems like everyone wants to get on a plane >> everyone wants to get on a plane and so many did over thanksgiving and luckily things went really well. this summer there were tons of cancellations, baggage lost, all around the world. things have gotten better, but the only thing that hasn't gotten better is fare prices. they continue to creep up, although i am a little hopeful there will be a little bit of a downward movement as oil prices have kind of steadied, but really robust bookings going into 2023. >> cheryl: you know it's interesting because if you look at the airfare numbers for october they were still higher by 43% year-over-year, ouch if you have to buy your plane tickets here. do you think it's because the feds raising rates? do you think it's because of staffing at the airlines? is it diesel fuel? what's going on? >> i mean, the biggest thing is demand, right? everyone wants to travel and remembe

we'll take it. >> i know. >>> brian kelly, let's talk. should people do? you know there are hundreds of thousands of other people in the same jam. >> absolutely. so if you're stuck at the airport, lines are long to talk to an agent what i recommend is get out your phone, even if you're in the line, try dm'ing the airline, a lot of airlines have chat bots that will let you change your flight. if you want to get through on the phone, you have five plus hour waits. one of the favorite tips is calling the international service line so call the mexico city office or asian offices, the agents speak english and often the wait times are shorter than the u.s. lines during storms. >> if you are at the airport and are in line to talk to a gate agent. what are the questions that a travel pro would know to ask that maybe they wouldn't ask you? what should you be talking to them about? >> you know, one of the things you want to ask is, can you protect me? if your flight is delayed, which almost half of flights are today. if you're not going to make you

i am joined by brian kelly, the founder of thepointsguy.com. thanks for joining us. what advice do you have for anyone heading home or heading out today. is your advice just don't do it? >> well, where possible. travel can be dangerous to many parts of the country right now. if you absolutely have to travel, you need to be proactive. even if you're in sunny los angeles, there is a chance that your flight may be delayed or canceled because it's coming from an impacted area. sign up for push alerts. i also recommend flight aware. you can download their app, track your flight. they will alert you about a delay or cancellation before the airline. and even if your flight is not canceled, i highly recommend packing snacks and food. i have friends who waited for three hours because the grouped crews can't be out in the fridge it temps. pack your patience. just know that it's going to be tough traveling this weekend. >> pack your patience. definitely were good advice at the airport but also know. what do you say to travelers who must get home if they are facing delays or can
