joy-ann reid is back with me and i'm also joined by political analyst pat buchanan. okay, pat, on one hand you look at that poll and you say, of course, they're not going to share a stage with her and on the other hand, they need to get some enthusiasm from the people who love sarah palin, the conservative republicans. are they doing the right thing here? >> i think they are as a cold political decision, chris. sarah palin is a very controversial figure. california is a very moderate to liberal state. they've got the base fired up, both fiorina do and meg whitman. their problem is, quite frankly, getting the moderate and some more liberal votes who are sort of antiwhat's going on in washington. so, they have the palin vote and they're after other votes and they don't want a controversy or be involved in a controversy which distracts from their fundamental message which they would get if they were there with sarah palin? >> is sarah palin's power that she can really raise money? >> good sort of national figure for the republican party. she can fire up the base and go

it was reported about three hours ago on generally town and buchanan -- gentry town and buchanan. jade hernandez has the latest from the scene. >> reporter: good morning. firefighters are out here. even pg&e. i just spoke to a crew. they just told us that they turned off the gas to two buildings. this fire quickly grew to a blaze around 3:45. we spoke to a woman's husband who heard explosions, what sounded like ammunition going on. they saw residents on the balcony. the contra costa county fire department responded right away. >> we don't know what caused the fire. typically, in these buildings, they have four units that are all sort of tied together and those were all caught on fire at the same time. that's what we're dealing with. >> reporter: this fire broke out at the village of parkview apartments in antioch. the fire damage is extensive, destroying four apartments, heavily damaging three others and slightly damaging another. we're told by the battalion chief seven or eight families may be affected. firefighters did not know how many of the units were occupied. one individual

we'll bring in now pat buchanan, also with us democratic strategist peter fenn.entleman, i want to start with pat. where is all this money coming from? we're talking millions of dollars here. in christine o'donnell's case alone the fund-raising she's had is intense. >> the day after she won that primary she got a million dollars in. basically that's all small contribution, medium-sized contributions from individuals. meg whitman's got her own fortune, of course, which she's using. then you've got large amounts of money coming in for these karl rove operations. and then the chamber of commerce has an enormous amount of money coming in after they attacked the chamber for funneling foreign money into the country. i think it's all kinds of money, thomas. it is large and small contributions. it reflects the real sense of fire and energy in this off-year election. >> pat, are you opposed to the foreign money? >> well, it's a crime if you take foreign money in an election in the united states! i think that's a smear. i don't think the chamber of commerce did that. and i

pat buchanan won the new hampshire primary. we ran a big series called the downsizing of america.times are bad like that, it is much easier to look at the reasons why that is to see the good news that might be around the corner. in that case, the internet. given that the way that we have gotten ourselves out of down cycles over the last 25 years has been part to a big buildup of debt. we cannot repeat that. we have to get out of that and that is why some of the work says that the aftermath is so bad. we have this deficit problem. both the medium term and long term. i will not linger on that. we have this long term growth problem. if you look at average annual economic growth from 2001-2007 -- i am putting it off before the great recession. i am trying to make the last decade look as good as possible. it was slower than any decade since world war ii. if you include the rest of the decade, it is really a lot slower. if you control for population, but then beats the 1970's. but that is the lobar. we're coming out of the time in which growth has not been great. we are in a period in w
