cal fire posted this video of a chinook helicopter doing airdrops. officials shut down part of highway 20 and are telling people to clear traffic in the area for first responders. this is time lapse video from an alert wildfire camera of all that smoke from that fire. you can see the big, huge plume right there. the national weather service has issued a red flag warning for parts of the bay area due to the potential fire threat. >>> first alert meteorologist zoe mintz joins us now for a closer look at what we can expect. >> the heat and dry air is the reason for the red flag warning in effect across the mountains of the bay area. it's because of the dry air, about 25% humidity. all those in combination has led to elevated fire danger, but there is some good news. even though it's extremely hot and very dry, the winds aren't anything too impressive. let's look at those winds and what we'll expect throughout the night tonight because that red flag warning is only in effect through very early tomorrow morning. so the winds, look at the direction of them

that's according to cal fire officials. firefighters are battling this blaze through the night on the ground and by air. seven air tankers, two tactical aircraft and 12 helicopters are dropping thousands of gallons of fire retardant and water. it will continue nonstop this weekend, something cal fire says is necessary to get it under control late in the year. in october, which typically we experience some high wind conditions and all the fuels are extra dry. given the fact that we're under red flag warnings, it means that we have the perfect recipe for a fire to be able to spread rapidly. and cal fire says the fire is now 10% contained and crews have managed to stop any forward progress. the cause is still under investigation. in addition to putting out the flames strike, teams are in the area doing structure protection in the newsroom. i'm jocelyn moran, nbc, bay area news. jocelyn, thank you. and a heads up, if you are planning to head into san francisco this weekend. just about an hour ago, caltrans shut down the central

cal taking on the undefeated miami hurricanes. anthony flores going to have the highlights for us in sports. he joins us in less than 20 minutes. well one person is dead tonight in a suspected road rage crash in the north bay. it happened around 2 p.m. today in rohnert park. that is eight miles south of santa rosa. chp tells us two cars that were driving southbound on stony point road. and that is when one driver rammed their car into the other. that driver lost control, went into another lane where it was hit by a car going the opposite way. chp says three people were in the car that was rammed. one woman died and a man and a child were taken to the hospital. the other person driving northbound also taken to the hospital. chp says it believes it's located the car who allegedly started the crash. several miles away on highway 101. we have reason to believe there may have been a third involved vehicle that fled the scene. that investigation is still ongoing as information becomes available. no word tonight on the condition of the v
