another car was heading north on north calvert street. they actually both then collided with a third car on the side of the road. i spoke to the woman in that car. her boyfriend had stopped the car and gotten out to get her something to eat at the convenience store. the 7-11. and shortly after he got out, he heard a big crash and realized that the cars had crashed into her vehicle. she is okay, not injured, but police will speak with her. she believe that is the accord that was heading north on calvert street ran the light and ran into michael phelps' vehicle, going east. police told us that the they don't believe alcohol was involved in the crash and neither michael phelps, driving the suv, or a female, driving the accord. the woman was the only person with significant injuries. she was taken to a local hospital. not believed to be serious. michael phelps walked away from the crash after police spoke to him about what happened here tonight. once again, michael phelps, the olympic champion swimmer, involved in a car crash in mount vernon.

>>reporter: well we are live at the corner of north calvert and east meddle street. people who live in the neighborhood call it a dangerous intersection. they say car accidents happen here frequently and of course the latest crash involved michael phelps. now police say a woman driving a honda accord ran a red light and crashed into phelps cadillac escalade suv. now it happened just before 9:00 o'clock last night. police say the honda driver was shaken up. a witness snapped this picture of phelps at the scene sitting on the ground talking with police. he was not hurt. and neither were the 2 passengers. now witnesses say the impact struck the parked car and took out a mailbox at the corner. man walking his dog saw the crash and phelps when he stepped out of the vehicle. >> he was holding his back and limping but they offered himmel attention he said no i'm actually fine. he was walking around bare foot which i thought was a little odd but he was all right. >>reporter: now in 2004 phelps pled guilty to drunk driving charge. maryland state trooper pulled him over after

driving his black escalade east on middle street when he was hit by a honda accord heading north on calvert. authorities say the driver of that car ran a red light. >> he had nothing to do with the cause of the accident. it was the other driver running a red light and st. -- trucking his car. phelps refused medical treatment at the scene. his swim coach spoke exclusively to a reporter today and says phelps was a little shaken, but not hurt. >> it was essentially a fender bender. we were concerned for everyone's help, and glad that everyone came out of it okay. >> police say phelps was cooperative with the investigation, even telling officers that he drank a beer about an hour in 15 minutes before the crash. police say he sought -- showed no signs of being drawn, and there was no need for a field sobriety test. it was not until later that they realized they would have to cite him as well. police say phelps was driving without a license, and failed to establish residency in maryland within a year of moving back. >> i realize he travels a lot. he has been overseas a lot. it could be an oversig

this all happened about 9:00 last night at the corner of calvert and biddle streets. phelps was not injured, but the other female driver of the honda accord was shaken up and taken to an area hospital. two passengers in phelps' car were not injured as well. phelps has been interviewed by police and alcohol was not a factor in this accident. >> one of the drivers of the vehicle was michael phelps. another was a female driver transported to the hospital as a precaution opinion mr. phelps did not complain of any injuries. we asked the investigation unit and central district to investigate this. they are literally interviewing mr. phelps, witnesses, and passengers of the vehicles. >> reporter: phelps won eight gold medals at the beijing olympics. usa swimming suspeed him earlier this year after a british tabloid published a picture of him using a marijuana pipe. officials investigated that, but there was not enough evidence to charge him. meanwhile, police are still investigating this crash that happened last night to find out further details about it. we're here at the 7

first occurred july 27 when two girls were walking near fayette and calvert and offered a ride by two men. when one of the girls apparently told the driver, he was going the wrong way on i-95, his passenger pulled out a knife and threatened to stab her. >> court records show they were at seton keogh high school. and a second car pulled up. and raped the girls. while police were investigating that rape, another occurred on august 8. >> this is a successful operation. as a result of a courageous victim that cameford and able to provide very specific information, includes two investigators that helped to identify the perpetrators. >> well, the victim was able to provide part of a tag number that helped police track down the car that belonged to one of the suspects. that suspect confessed and provided the names of the other men. anthony edoror, jr, opeyemi adigun and adeamoloa adeniran. are all being held without bail. >> more details tonight about a stabbing in baltimore county. victim was rushed to shock trauma but police believe he will survive. attack occurred before 10:00 in catonsvi
