we're keeping our eyes on double scan radar as is meteorologist cecily tynan. cecily what's the latest there? >> jim double scan live showing most of the activity is focused on a warm front that's north of our region so most of it is missing us. we had one cell working out of the lehigh valley into bucks county near milford, 611 and there's another line that i'm tracking that's moving towards baltimore right now. this has a lot of lightning strikes. you'll notice with the bowing, it does have some gusty winds so if that does stay together that will be moving over delaware and south jersey later on tonight. but one thing that we're not escaping at all, the humidity and the heat. the dewpoints right now are in the 70's so that's oppressive humidity. that's a near tropical air mass right over us. you combine it with the temperature, the heat index currently makes it feel like 93 in philadelphia, even on the beaches with that land breeze you don't have that sea breeze the heat index currently in the low 90's and that will be intensifying tomorrow. so, this is what t

let's get the latest on all of this from meteorologist cecily tynan at the big board. >> and jim, it's going to be a busy night for double scan live. it shows you what's going on north of philadelphia, we have a steady lighter rain but south of philadelphia where the air is warmer, this is really the focus of the severe weather. we did have that tornado warning from salem county from about 4:40 until 5 o'clock. our radar did detect some of that rotation that could be a tornado. now as we're zoomed in no severe weather but there is a line of pretty active storms working through elmer right now crossing route 40 out of salem, 30 lightning strikes in the past 15 minutes but really the main concern is the fact that it's pulling down a tremendous amount of moisture in a short period of time. these rainfall rates showing the areas you see in purple that rain is falling at the rate of 2-inches per hour. and they're only moving at about 20 miles per hour. so, they're really sitting over the same location. that's what's known as training. when you get the storm over and over the same area. i wa

the accuweather forecast cecily tynan. >> i am tracking slight improvements. another soggy night. double scan showing we have a pretty solid area of generally light rain over the i-94 corridor. zooming in beginning to die things out. chester county downing town and coatesville, we have a heavy pocket of showers right over route 70 north of medford lakes. that continues to move up to the north. but then we get a break in the action as we head through the overnight hours. live in sky 6 taking a look at a temple university sky cam. and low cloud deck. what a difference it made now that we moved out of may. all of may philadelphia only receiving 1.19 inches of rain. thes first two days of june we've already gotten 2 1/4 inches of rain and coming with cool air today. the high 58 degrees. the coolest high temperature for the date since 1946 when the high was only 56 degrees. and now temperatures are stuck in the mid 50s. allentown 56 the same in philadelphia. millville 55. trenton 54. and wilmington 56 degrees. satellite 6 along with action radar showing a lot of clouds. if you look tho

i'm going to bring in meteorologist cecily tynan.g on with that red and green. >> great job adam. i was back in the weather officers when i saw the rotation and i thought wow this storm looks serious and moments after that they did issue the tornado warning. when we show the reflect tiffivity this shows the wind direction. when you have the red, that's wind going away from the radar site. when you see the green that we saw in the earlier frames there, that's the winds heading towards the radar site. when you do have those shifting winds, you get that rotation that can't indicate a tornado so this is why we do take any tornado warnings very seriously. again, that is moving at a 20 miles per hour towards the east so if you live in these communities, penns branch, pennsville, seconde central park church town, mahonyville and beaver dam you need to seek shelter immediately. one thing we talk about tornado safety. i can show that graphic. was need to do is you need to put as many layers between you and the outside as possible. we always s
