this is "meet the press" with chuck todd. >>> and a good sunday morning. millions of americans felt a combination of grief and relief, experiencing both the trial and the verdict of derek chauvin last week. but even as much of america exhales, it does help to remember the initial statement from the minneapolis police department. here is how it read. officers were able to get the suspect, george floyd, into handcuffs and noted he appeared to be suffering medical distress. officers called for an ambulance. he was transported to hennepin county medical center by ambulance where he died a short time later. he appeared to be suffering medical distress. that's all it said. did derek chauvin's trial and conviction change anything? it's hard to know. right now there are calls for video to be released in the fatal shooting last week of andrew brown in north carolina. but most cases of alleged brutality against african-americans do not have video that puts the lie to statements like the one the minneapolis police department put out. most cases don't have the whole w

welcome to "meet the press" and i'm chuck todd. we have been watching live coverage of testimony in derek chauvin's trial. we have breaking news on a nearby fatal police encounter in the past few minutes. now former police officer kim potter was arrested and the county attorney's office announced charges to charge her with second degree manslaughter in the death of daunte wright. the charge carries a maximum of ten years in prison. 20-year-old daunte wright was shot and killed in a traffic stop on sunday. officer potter and the police chief both resigned yesterday. news of the charge brought against potter comes as the defense in derek chauvin's trial continues presenting in case. jurors heard from the former medical examiner in maryland who testified drugs and a heart condition contributed to mr. floyd's death. >> how did the heart and drugs contribute to the cause of death? >> there was significant -- well, they contributed to mr. floyd having a sudden cardiac arrest, in my opinion. that's how i would read it. >> shaquille brewst

today on meet the press, chuck todd asked the transportation secretary pete buttigieg if we will have to run ourselves into even more depth. >> division the president has put forward is fully paid for across 15 years and it would raise all of the revenue needed for these once-in-a-lifetime investments, so by year 16 you would actually see this package working to reduce the deficit. again, it is important to point out that the american people agree with this because we have seen corporations pay in zero. >> san francisco-based salesforce, new report found it was one of at least 55 fortune 500 companies to pay no corporate taxes last year and instead it got $12 million in rebates. on more than 2.6 billion in profit. of course big companies will benefit from infrastructure improvements, but republicans argue that boosting the corporate tax burden to pay for them will backfire. >> that is going to cut job creation in the united states of america and it is the very reason we lowered those tax rates in 2017. >> vice president harris is returning to her roots in the bay area tomorrow visitin

i'm kasie hunt in for chuck todd. you've been watching the sixth day of testimony in the trial of derek chauvin. we've been hearing testimony from the most high-profile witness yesterday, minneapolis police chief ma derio arradondo, testifying about police training and policies in the department. he's expected to testify chauvin's conduct was not consistent with the police department's training and policies. that would be similar from what we heard from two other high-ranking minneapolis police officers last week but this is the first we heard from the head of the department. we expect chief arradondo's testimony to continue this afternoon, and we also heard this morning from the doctor who treated george floyd when he arrived at the hospital and who pronounced him dead. he told jurors what he believed cause floyd's death. >> was your leading theory then for the cause of mr. floyd's cardiac arrest oxygen deficiency? >> that was one of the more likely possibilities. i felt at the time based on the information i had, it

i'm chuck todd. you have been watching msnbc's live coverage of the murder trial of derek chauvin. the prosecution has been focusing on how george floyd died. a good day for the prosecution. today, jurors are hearing from more medical experts. the medical examiner, who conducted george floyd's autopsy, who is yet to testify, is expected to testify this afternoon. it's not lost on any of us they are putting on the experts before the medical examiner testifies. before that testimony, we have been hearing from dr. lindsey thomas, who helped train andrew baker. she told jurors mr. floyd died from asphyxia and it was a direct result of interaction with police that night. >> if you put all this together, cardiopulmonary arrest, complicating law enforcement subduing, restraint, what does it mean? >> the activities of the law enforcement resulted in mr. floyd's death, and it was the restraint and neck compression. >> they asked about the medical examiner's conclusion that mr. floyd's death was the result of homicide. >> usually, drug doses are accidental, unless there's evidence of intent,
