flames quickly sweeping through a neighborhood in clearlake. >> cierra johnson is live in clearlake this morning with the latest developments. we can see what happened behind you. it happened so fast. >> reporter: yeah, as we were pulling up it was still pretty dark, but the moment the sun came up it was breathtaking. there's nothing standing behind me, and you see the charred remains and the outline of a bike and the iron chair still sitting here that looks to be the front at one point of somebody's home. this fire was fast-moving. 800 people are on stand by to evacuate. we did have crews outside and they captured images of the fire, the mobile home park ravaged by the fire. our crew spoke with folks that were forced to leave their home as the cache fire raged on. take a listen to what one evacie had to say. >> it felt like the movies, kind of, like where you are supposed to evacuate quickly but everybody was just bunch up and the roads were blocked. it was just really scary. >> reporter: she said it looked like the movies when she was exiting, and it looks like the remainder of a movie

nbc bay area's melissa colorado joins us live from clearlake from the fire. it is a repeat of the last few years, melissa. >> reporter: a woman i interviewed says she's professional at evacuating these wildfires. she's been doing it since 2015. yes, as you well know the cache fire is not the largest ravaging northern california right now. being able to destroy so many homes and such little time. the fire swept through two mobile home communities and destroyed several single family homes. a graveyard for these vehicles that we see right here. this is right here and what looks like appears to be and used to be lawn mower, there is a grill. you got the structure to a building here. that structure somehow still up but it looks completely charred and absolutely a loss for whoever own this property. as you can hear crews spent the entire day clearing roads, clearing these down trees and down power lines and giving an opportunity hopefully very soon for the folks who live here to reenter this evacuation zone and see for themselves if their homes are still good or no

he was living in the rv after his clearlake home burned last month. as flames closed in on rodney's rv he scrambled to gather his three dogs, tying each one up so he could focus on one at a time. the wind driven fire was moving too fast. rodney says police showed up and ordered him to escape with them. and he couldn't go back to get his dogs. he returned to the area that same night to find one of his dogs, but feared the other two had died. days later animal control officer emily crumb checked the property. >> we were about to leave and i looked open and happened to see this dog laying on its side on the -- right underneath the trailer hitch and i thought it was dead. >> reporter: she walked closer to the limp dog. >> i walked over to it and started blinking and wagging its tail and moving its head around and i was like oh, my gosh, it's alive. >> reporter: sammie was not burned, just coated with specs of flame retardant. an hour later officer crumm found rodney's other dog and he was reunited with his pets at the local shelter. >> ecstatic. i really

and for our north bay highs up to 84 in clearlake. break from the unhealthy air quality and the heat before we see some changes ahead. here's what's happening. we have a storm system passing to the north. it's enhancing our westerly wind but then by the end of the week, high pressure is going to build in from the desert southwest and shift our wind direction instead of getting a wind coming off of the ocean it's going to be more of a northerly wind and our inland areas will be heating up and smoke will be returning. let's check out a spot like morgan hill where our temperatures will be heating up, low 80s today and tomorrow and you see how much hotter it's going to be on thursday. 91. the heat continues into the weekend with some mid 90s and it's going to be slow to cooldl of next week. taking a look at our temperatures to the upper 90s all within the course of a few days. and so we're also going to see some slight warming in san francisco. little bit more sunshine and i know a lot of people want to enjoy it but unfortunately air qual

i think there is a clearlake, i know, i don't think actually, the lowest vaccinated state in the states with the highest case rates. this past week, the most vaccinated state in america, vermont, has seen just five new cases. five per day. for every 100,000 people who live in that state. that means, on any given day only 30 people in the entire state of vermont got covid-19. nearby maine, which is vaccinated -- has seen nearly 6% increase in vaccination. they're saying nearly 10 to 20 million more cases for unvaccinated people in lower vaccinators states read it is heartbreaking. particularly because it is preventable. that is why we are doing everything we can to get more people vaccinated. and we are seeing real results. in the past two weeks, we've seen a 55% increase in the average number of new people getting vaccinated every day area in the last seven days alone, 3 million americans have gotten their first shot. that is the highest seven-day total in a month. and more importantly, the eight states with the highest current case rates have seen a doubling of the number of people new

affecting a portion of the city of clearlake, lower lake, and into areas burned a couple of years ago by the clant -- clayton fire. there are a lot of people to be displaced tonight. kristen: this neighborhood we're looking at, we understand the creekside mobile home park has mostly burned down and cache creek mobile home estates has partially burned down. is that accurate? do you know of others? >> that is accurate. i don't know of others directly. i've been helping the evacuation. we're going to have some people that have lost their homes, yes. kristen: where are folks going? are there exit points open and safe to make that exit right now? >> there are. we've blocked off some of the areas that lead into the area to stop congestion. we've set up an evacuation shelter at kelseyville high school which is about a 15-minute drive from here, well out of the danger area. our department of social services and non-government organizations are setting it up to take care of people that need shelter. we anticipate this will be a a couple-day event at least. kristen: do you anticipate a need for

60s for half moon bay, san francisco in the mid to upper 60s and our north bay highs up to 101 in clearlakeu can still see the wide range in temperatures that we've had for quite a while that continues today. this is nothing compared to what they're going to experience once again across the pacific northwest. take a look at portland today. heading up to 102 degrees. seattle reaching 96. a lot across this region do not have air conditioning and it's going to be another brutal hot weekend for the pacific northwest. we're watching a couple tropical systems. kevin continues to weaken, but some of the moisture surging closer to us and linda is still a tropical storm. so once the remnants of kevin gets closer we could see a chance of rain especially in parts of the north bay later on tonight. take a look at the time frame, that's 11:00. it does show there could be spotty showers moving by. we'll have to watch that closely because there may be a few embedded thunderstorms and some lightening strikes could really be bad news for us. our temperatures are going to be hot this weekend and that combine

the fire burned remarkably fast threw two mobile home parks yesterday on the south end of clearlake. >> it moved so fast, when fire crews arrived, they found a half-acre lawn on fire but the wind was quickly blowing the flames toward mobile home parks. police immediately began going door-to-door to get people out of harm's way. 1500 students were evacuated from five schools in the area. those schools need a deep cleaning before reopening on monday. >> there were heroics yesterday in terms of rescuing people, animals. people had to move fast. it was stunning. larry: 56 homes reduced to rubble. 158 vehicles burned. in the middle of the destruction, a sign of life. this cat, singed and injured by the fire, found huddled against one of the few homes still standing. >> we will take it to get care now. larry: kelly got out just in time. her home survived but her relatives were not so lucky. >> my aunt's house burned down to the ground. my cousins house burned down to the ground. they've got nothing left. nothing. larry: so tough for so many people. the u.s. forest service has closed nine n

there reaching 65 downtown and 75 in napa, 74 in santa rosa and some upper 80s around ukiah and clearlake're going to see a shift in the wind direction. this really going to make a huge difference. the kind of temperatures we're going to feel by tomorrow, a little bit more of a southerly wind picking up and by friday, is when we really start to feel the return of the smoke and the hotter temperatures. taking a look at our near surface smoke model this has really been useful this year because it does show some of the areas on the map that is going to have a little bit more clearing for today and tomorrow, especially near the coast and parts of the north bay. not looking as smoky. look at thursday afternoon, we start to see much more of that smoke settling into parts of the east bay, around fairfield as well as the tri-valley, as some of that smoke starts to settle into the sacramento valley and comes into the bay area. so as these temperatures heat up, the smoke will be returning and take a look at these highs reaching into the low 80s today, jumping up about ten degrees tomorrow and even

clearlake and ukiah well above 100 degrees. no sign of monsoon moisture other than a few high clouds passing your way. thunderstorms will continue in the sierra. but we're going see some changes as the heat backs off a little bit. that strong high that brought heat up and down the west coast starts to get replaced by that trough of low pressure. showers too far north to help us out. but that's going trigger the stronger sea breeze monday to tuesday that leads to cooler temperatures. and any time we get cooler temperatures in that stronger sea breeze, it also means better air quality. so you can look forward to that as well. as the valleys begin to cool off, we'll see numbers inland and the 70s and 80s which should be good news for our air quality. i think you saw it towards the end of the smoke outlook that things were improving as we head towards monday. onshore winds should help us out the middle part of the week. >> we're about halfway through august, and things temperature-wise are pretty good. >> no signs of any significan

the fire burned remarkably fast threw two mobile home parks yesterday on the south end of clearlake. >> it moved so fast, when fire crews arrived, they found a half-acre lawn on fire but the wind was quickly blowing the flames toward mobile home parks. police immediately began going door-to-door to get people out of harm's way. 1500 students were evacuated from five schools in the area. those schools need a deep cleaning before reopening on monday. >> there were heroics yesterday in terms of rescuing people, animals. people had to move fast. it was stunning. larry: 56 homes reduced to rubble. 158 vehicles burned. in the middle of the destruction, a sign of life. this cat, singed and injured by the fire, found huddled against one of the few homes still standing. >> we will take it to get care now. larry: kelly got out just in time. her home survived but her relatives were not so lucky. >> my aunt's house burned down to the ground. my cousins house burned down to the ground. they've got nothing left. nothing. larry: so tough for so many people. the u.s. forest service has closed nine n

destroyed more than three dozen homes after sweeping through two mobile home communities in the town of clearlake. crews spent the day clearing downed trees and downed power lines frat cache creek mobile home park while city crews assessed that destruction. the 80-acre fire forced more than 2,000 people to evacuate yesterday. this area of lake county is no stranger to wildfires. in fact, five years ago police say an arsonist start the clayton fire, which destroyed 300 buildings in that same area. >> the county of lake it's been a really tough couple of years. particularly stretching back to 2015. >> there's so many people who lost everything. my aunt and my cousin now have nothing. i don't know if they know it or not. but i do and it's breaking my heart. >> the lake county fire protection district says there are no reports of missing people or deaths linked to this fire and the cause is still under investigation. >>> moving from a fire north of the bay area to a fast-moving one outside of sacramento. the caldor fire has forced thousands to evacuate in el dorado county. you can see the smap here.

redwood city and moving into san francisco 70 today and our north bay highs 90 in napa and 100 in clearlake. definitely hotter as well as more smoke coming in as we take a look at all of the red here. this is smoke pouring across the bay area. our computer models are picking up on that. i've been good at this for the past couple weeks where we had a lot more smoke moving in. the models were able to pick up on that. its does show we see what's approaching unhealthy air quality going into today as well as tomorrow because of the shift in the wind from the fires that are burning to the north. it's going to be settling in, but we also have high pressure that's building. with high pressure we have a clockwise wind flow and also just under that high pressure, the air is descending putting a high amount of pressure earth that's why it's called i pushing that smoke down close to the surface and depending on the wind direction is where it steers all of the smoke. doesn't matter where you travel across california there's going to be smoky and hazy conditions, unhealthy air quality. we are going to ne
