[ music ] >> reporter: they feel at home on the water in their sail boat but right now it is drifting without power and the family's daughter is sick. that is why the national guard flew in to help. >> this is what we train for, this specific job. >> reporter: he is a rescue officer keeping in touch with the crew already on the boat pwith the fammal -- boat with the family. the crew found the boat last night. they parachuted into the water to get to the family. they were called by the coast guard who reported the girl had systems. >> they are treating the one- year-old and making sure everybody else is healthy. >> reporter: they are waiting on a navy ship to take the family back to shore. but this morning a plane left with refueling two helicopters in flight that may be needed to rescue the family faster if the girl's condition worsance. >> due to the dist -- worse

ktvu's cristina rendon is in the area and joins us now from red bluff where the ntsb gave us an update on the investigation this afternoon. >> reporter: board member says it will take time for investigators to figure out what happened but right now the focus of the investigation is finding out perishable information, those are things like witness statements because people's memory could get soggy as time passes. they were at the crash site today and they were tasked with a number of things at the scene. [ audio difficulties ] >> all right. we apologize. we lost the audio. i can continue on. the ntsb, they are there. the go team arrived at 9:30 a.m. this morning. they will be looking at the medical conditions, the work, and the rest schedules of the drivers as well as looking at the vehicles to see when they were last inspected or with whether or not there are control modules. they will not speculate to what caused the fedex driver to veer across the median and hit a car and then the tour bus but they want witnesses to help them in their investigation. >> if you are out there watching t
