"the new york times" and the "washington post" did extensive research on congressional wealth. the findings reveal there's a millionaire's club on capitol hill. it involves half the members of congress. 250 of them. the revelation comes as congress debates unemployment benefits, a millionaire's tax, and a potential cut to food stamps. the report cites numbers from moody's analytics. it says while the net worth of congress increased, that same worth dropped by 8% for average americans. this is the kind of information that fueled the occupy movement. now they have ammunition in their claim that congress is part of the 1%. and the cook here at the mini gourm gourmet, even though he likes his job,

damien trujillo joins us live outside the new offices. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. they moved a few miles down highway 101 to menlo road. they're overlooking the san francisco bay. we're at the west end of the dun baren bridge to give you an idea of where facebook headquarters are located. for several years they've been located in buildings scattered throughout palo alto. the company felt it was time to move into its own place. beginning today, all employees will be driving onto willow road in menlo park. there are a lot of amenities for the employees so they don't have to go too far to get the gourmet coffees or lunch. if it's anything like google, the employees won't need to leave the campus at all. that's why there's criticism about how much economic impact the facebook headquarters will have on the local economy here in menlo park. the next big step for the social networking giant is going public. that's expected to happen toward the middle of next year. so a lot of things happening at facebook. what do you think? do you like the new status update for facebook?

today in the bay's damien trujillo is live in menlo park with an update for us. od morning, damien. >> reporter: good morning. this is moving day for facebook. in just a few hours the employees will be filing into their new headquarters right here at 1601 willow road in menlo park. it's just on the west end of the bridge, just to give you an idea of where this place is located. the move comes after seven years of facebook leasing office space in the city of palo alto. in fact, the offices were scattered in different locations. now it's all centralized right here on willow road. that means roughly 2,000 employees will be driving into 1601 willow road. that number is expected to go up to 9,000 in the next couple of years, and this place is big enough to house all of them. a new headquarters is supposed to have all the amenities any worker might need. it's i its own mini city within its. critics question what, if any, economic impact facebook will have on the local economy. it's the model we've seen at google. give the workers anything they might need during the day,

damien trujillo is live at san jose city hall where unions will hold a news conference challenging cityders. how do you find $40 million? >> that's what -- bad math. i don't know how to describe it better, laura. the unions will hold that news conference here later on at 12:30. police and fire unions feel they've been made a scapegoat throughout the budget mess over the last couple of years or so. now an analyst says san jose may be in better shape last year. he said over the summer that the city's pension cost would increase by $160 million next fiscal year. now the analyst says that estimate was too high. instead of a projected $80 million deficit next year. san jose is less than $40 million. maybe $25 million. san jose has new money. now the police say the fire unions are demanding no service cuts next fiscal year. >> i've been angry for a while. i've got a mayor that in essence is going to destroy the department that i love and put 2 years of my life into. it's a painful process to watch. >> well, the numbers aren't a surprise. they're the numbers we used when we submitted an aggres

damien trujillo joins us live from berkeley where police forced protesters out overnight. >> good morning. >> reporter: good morning. they tried to force them out. but the protesters didn't go anywhere. they were served an eviction notice by the city saying they had to be out as of 10:00 p.m. yesterday evening. apparently there were a few clashes with police. the protesters are still here. we're counting about 75 of them. reports again of clashes with police. we haven't been able to speak with berkeley police at this point, but the protesters say they came in from different directions. a lot of the tents are still up he here. they asked how long they plan to stay here. they plan to stay for the duration. we haven't seen patrol units anywhere in the location. that's when things deescalated between the protesters and police. >> thank you for bringing us the latest, damien. >>> a growing number of state lawmakers wants to stop police officers from buying restricted weapons for personal use. reports show more than 7,600 assault weapons were purchased by officers. lawmakers are questioning whe

damien trujillo joins us live where the giveaways will last all week. >> reporter: the doors didn't hoping in 9:00. it's been nonstop ever since here at sacred heart. this line goes around the block here. organizers say the need is bigger than before. they worry they might run out of food. since 2007 the numbers have gone up by 70%. today and tomorrow they'll hand out more than 3,000 food boxes to the poor. and because the need is so great they are forced to give out food bags. usually they have food left over from the thanksgiving food drive. this year the shelves are empty. organizers are crossing their fingers hoping everyone who needs their help gets it. >> they'll get a turkey to share with a wonderful christmas dinner and maybe a blanket. >> right now i'm barely making ends meet. with a place like sacred heart, i come here. and they help me out a lot. >>> the pantry is open until 5:00 today. on wednesday they'll begin giving out toys, and more than 5600 school children. so expect long lines here at sacred heart for the remainder of this week. he says in the first two hours of today's
