a fiery crash left a boy dead. >> darcy spencer has new information about this accident. darcy?> reporter: good morning. what we're learning is that the victim who died in the single-vehicle crash was about 10 years old. that little boy apparently in the back passenger portion of the car. what we found out just a few minutes ago, apparently the car was driving here on the eastbound side and went over the median. you can see that the car plowed right into that hillside there. right off of sam eig highway. let's go to some show we shot a short time ago. so police are saying this accident happened around 3:30 this morning. they're trying to figure out what was happening, where was the woman going where was she heading to at 3:30 in the morning with a young child in the back seat. an ambulance crew happened to be in the area and they spotted this car. they jumped out. that car was on fire and they grabbed the fire extinguisher to put the fire out. it wasn't until later that they realized there was a child inside. >> taken from the scene with the burns and other injuries and taken to

news4's darcy spencer got to the scene there.ring us up to speed. >> reporter: well, good morning. we literally got here to this scene, and unfortunately, a child has died as a result of this accident. we're along sam eig highway in the gaithersburg area. this was the single-vehicle accident. you can see the white car right there. if you look on the passenger side, you can see some singeing marks. what we understand happened here, the vehicle crashed and then caught on fire. again, a passenger we're told a child, a boy, died. we do not have his age. a woman was transported to the hospital. her condition is considered to be serious. she had to be taken to a burn unit because of the injuries from this car fire. from what i have been told from montgomery county fire and rescue, there was an ambulance in the area headed back to fire station and came upon this accident. it was that ambulance crew that grabbed the fire extinguishers and put out the fire, rescued the woman out of the car and again that woman has been taken to an area bu

news4's darcy spencer reports on a device that many of us have in our basal that could have led to the deads. >> reporter: a mother and a young child undergo an electrical shock in montgomery county. fire and rest crew crews were called around 4:30 in the afternoon after a rainstorm had apparently flooded their basement. a family member came home and found the victims. >> reporter: firefighters arrived on the scene within minutes. they immediately initiated cpr and transported the adult female and child to the hospital. >> reporter: fire officials say they believe the shock was connected to the sump pump in the basement. they're usually hard wired into the electrical system and investigators are checking to see if there could have been a problem with the pump that led the water to become energized. >> something to do with the sump pump. the floor -- ground floor basement area was saturated in water. there was some deep water in the stairwell area where the sump pump was being operated. >> reporter: neighbors also have sump pumps in the basement and they were concerned something like th

but as news 4 darcy spencer reports, he was not the target. >> friends of tayshaun dorsey have set up a candle light memorial in the place where he was killed in his sleep. he wasmx crashing at a friend's apartment after celebrating his 25th birthday. someone fired two outside from outside the apartment. one struck him in the head, the other in the ceiling then crashed through the bedroom window. we spoke off camera to the couple who live in that apartment where this all happened. they said they loved their friend and they feel horrible about the fact that they didn't realize right away that the bullets had gone into that room. when police first investigated the call for shots fired, one of the residents in the apartment told police everything was okay. but when police returned later after a casing was found in the stairwell, he went into that room and found his friend's body. >> what a tragedy. for the entire community what a tragedy. >> georgette agnew is a friend of the dorsey family. dorsey's mom said she moved her sons to fredericksburg so they could grow up in a safe community.

darcy spencer just got to the scene. we hear that there were some kids on that tram. what else can you tell us tonight? >> reporter: erika i can tell you that prince george's declared a mass casualty incident because so many people were hurt. we took quite a hike to come in here to come to the park here. this is the scene of where this happened, very deep into the park, as you can see. there are investigators here on the scene, people from the parks department trying to figure out exactly how this happened. there were 30 people on this tram. it's been described as sort of like a toy train. the front part of this the tractor piece of this apparently overturned. and again, 30 people were on there. we are told adults as well as children, 21 people, were transported. that includes the person who was conducting or operating this train here through the park. we were able to speak to a woman who was here when this happened today and she was able to help a little girl who was hurt in this accident. >> yeah, all having a cookout for my dad. we were walking over to the ice crea

darcy? >> reporter: the victim's wife denise madison, showed incredible strength today as she testified about witnessing the murder of her husband. it's her ex-husband who is on trial, who was sit in the courtroom. he broke down in tears several times. at one point, he became so emotional, the judge had to call a recess. denise madison testified that her ex-husband, minh nguyen confronted her and her new husband the night of the murder. she says nguyen didn't want their three children to be left alone with her husband, corey madison. she was heading up to a local middle school to pick up their daughter. nguyen wanted her to take the other kids with her. she testified that he said -- when she got to the school, nguyen was already there when he saw she didn't have the other two children with her, he ran to denise and corey madison's townhouse, bill is a short distance from the school. denise madison called her husband to warn him that nguyen was on his way but she didn't make it time. new when

darcy spencer is live in chevy chase where it happened. >> reporter: this tragedy unfolded in the house behind me on connecticut avenue. montgomery county police confirming two victims died a. 29-year-old mother and her 4-year-old daughter. they were both electrocuted here in the basement. a woman and her young child suv suffered an electrical shock here in the chevy chase area in montgomery down pea. a torrential rainstorm flooded their basement and a family member came home and found the victims. >> firefighters arrived on the scenes in minutes, and they transported the mother and the child to the hospital, and they were both priority ones. >> fire officials believe the shock was connected to the sump pumps in the basement. investigators are checking to see if there could have been a problem with the pump that led the waiter to be energized. >> the floor basement was saturated in the water. >> neighbors we spoke to also have pumps in the basements and are concerned something like this could happen. >> my parents have not mentioned anything about it but it's worth looking at now. >> re

news 4's darcy spencer spoke to a teen who says he lost his brother to the drug. >> reporter: the young man i spoke to tonight is 17 years old, but he was 15 years old when he started smoking fake pot. it almost cost him his life. >> it's like marijuana times ten. like, it's crazy. >> stefan eichler talks about the reaction he had when he smoked synthetic marijuanament. >> i passed out in my room. i woke up and i was drenched in sweat. >> reporter: he spoked the drug for about a month. he ended up addicted and in the hospital for days. >> yeah. i thought i was going to die. >> reporter: he quit using the synthetic drug not just because of what happened to him but because of what happened to his 22-year-old brother charlie. he took his own life after abusing k2. >> the first couple times he was like, okay. this is all right. i can do this. then before you know, it it's too late. >> reporter: in d.c. a spike in synthetic marijuana overdoses caused the mayor to issue a warning. dozens of people have been taken to the hospital after overdosing. health officials say the drugs are being marke
