doyle drive is closed. you cannot get to marina boulevard or lumbard street like you usually would through that intersection. doesn't mean you can't get into san francisco. highway 1 is still open. and once you get through highway 1, you pop into the macarthur tunnel. you have to get left eventually down california street, or possibly geary. we just got word a photographer out there at the intersection of geary and presidio. it's a four-way stop and you can turn left on geary. again, usually you cannot turn left there. so expect gridlock because now it's a four-way stop in both directions. >> and it's not going to be just this area that's affected because people are going to be trying to get in and out of city so they'll look for some alternate routes. that is something to keep in mind it. will affect the whole bay area. >> if you're in marin county, thinking about the richmond-san rafael bridge that's one way, jump on 580 to 80, then across the bay bridge. there was heavy traffic last night, it's different

caltrans have opened the new doyle drive detour before 5:00 this morning. looking at traffic on the new road which takes drivers heading into san francisco through a tunnel near the field then the road will curve before heading into the marina. [ unintelligible ] the limit is 35 miles per hour watch out. so far, so good for the drivers. >>> pg&e is telling customers they have until tomorrow to decide if they want to opt-out of having a smart meter that has created confusion among several customers who want to opt-out but can't afford to do so right now. pg&e is charging a $75 up-front fee plus $10 per month for any customer who wants to opt-out. after several complaints, the utility says may 1st, is not an actual firm deadline. customers can opt-out any time they say. critics have questioned the accuracy and safety of smart meters. >>> the street party that kicks off the city's pride parade every year will look different. organizers of pink saturday say they are replacing the normal dance party with food trucks. the event celebrating the community is schedu

allie rasmus got to drive on this new doyle drive, how is it looking allie?reporter: it looked great and the new doyle drive opened 15 minutes ahead of schedule and things are looking good so far. he is standing on the truck to give this brand-new stretch and in the south direction you will not have any problems. let's show you what it looked like. you can see there is still a kuhai curve and there are a lot of electronic signs and call trans wants people to take it easy as they navigate the new roadway. it is spacious and there are five lanes of traffic and there is a movable concrete barrier and you can see it on the left of your screen. cal trans will switch north and southbound lanes during rush hours. we asked people who experienced it this morning for the first time what they thought about the new one. >> reporter: how is it better? >> much wider and more lights compared to the other which is still dark in the morning. >> it seemed tricky, it was good. >> reporter: what that lady was talking about, drivers will see what is left of the old doyle drive on

moat of doyle drive will be a pile of dust. there will be so much debris caltrans isn't trying to haul ate way right away. there is removeal taking place later. that traffic will be funneled ton surface streets and mason street could turn into a parking lot. caltrans is worried about gridlock. traffic and expected to move well monday when motorists will drive on a detour in place until the project is finished in about three years. this animation shows what the level detour will look like. caltrans says this weekend chrissy field will not be as hospitalable as normal with noise and dust but no one knows for sure what to expect in terms of traffic during this closure. and are most worried about north bay residents and tourists. >> there are three trials now so that is our north bay audience that is used to coming to golden gate bridge. there is a huge factor we're handing out ear plugs thchl is a national park saying it's not going to be a park-like setting. it's going to be the loudest national park we have known. you're looking

we are a half hour into this doyle drive closure.aven't seen a backup any more than one city block in any given direction. things are moving along very well. this is california highway one. this is one of two main routes to the golden gate bridge and now the other route 101 is closed to boil drive. all traffic is being detoured over here as you mentioned. i just saw a golden gate travel bus turning right here. so traffic is detouring pretty smoothly so far and traffic coming off the golden gate bridge going south. you can see some of them right here, these cars are making left hand turns. normally, this type of thing would get awe ticket, but they are allowing cars to turn left right here, also allowing cars to turn left at california and as a backup plan, they may allow them to turn left at fulton if it becomes necessary. right now, things are moving very well. in san francisco, charles clifford, kron4 news >> we are taking a look at conditions in marine county. highway 101, it looks like a lot of people got the message. no problem

the old doyle drive. you can see it is flat and makes a bend and it basically stays on surface streets, low-level surface streets until you make the incline up to the approach for the golden gate bridge. the project managers did shut down at 8:00 friday night. so they could take down the old doyle drive right there to the right and more of it to the left. and they said they would be open in time for this morning's commute at 5:00. they actually were about four minutes ahead of schedule. they opened at 4:56 this morning. and they've been warning about a slow commute, but as you can see, the commute direction, of course, being the headlights coming towards us, yes, there is traffic, but it does seem to be moving at the limit. the limit is slightly different, 35 miles an hour, not 40 miles an hour which it was when you used to have the doyle drive overpass here. heading northbound, you'll notice a major feature here, you'll see the new alignment where it does an s-curve. and you'll see the tunnel in the fore
