ellen, what is project include? >> a nonprofit i started with seven other women to bring issues of diversity and inclusion to the tech sector and to help companies improve on both of those areas. >> when you talk about diversity in the tech sector, there are all sorts of facts and figures out there. what is the percentage of people of color and women who are involved in technology today? ellen: it is too low. it varies from company to company. the larger companies have maybe 20% women, maybe 40% if you include people in non-tech roles. if you look at startups, they can get the better numbers. we've seen startups get to 50% women, 10% black employees, 10% latinx employees. it is possible to get higher numbers, and they exist if you look in the right places. peter: a couple of the figures i saw include figures for google. 5.9 percent latino, 3.7% black americans. facebook, 3.8% when it comes to diversity. are those correct figures? ellen: i think they are optimized for looking better. i think if you look at the leader

ellen: it is complicated.here are definitely problems in the education system, which pushes people, certain groups of people away from stem, which makes it harder for them to get through these programs. there is a lot of bias in teaching stem. but there are a lot of people out there, so there are a lot of women, there are a lot of black and brown students who are ready to join the workforce. they face a lot of problems when they are trying to get jobs. people aren't looking for people who look like them. there is a lot of bias in the hiring process. there is a lot of opportunity to change that. i think companies are realizing they should be recruiting from hbcu's, they shouldn't always be thinking about the kid who started coding at age five or had access to coding camps or access to different programs, but there is still a ton of work to do. the second piece, you said stem and mentoring. there is a piece about mentoring. we talk about it often as people who are sponsoring, so i've done mentoring programs in t

ellen: it is an evolution.the march fomc meeting they will have to resize -- revise their forecast because growth will be tracking higher in the first quarter because of the stimulus checks that came through in the bill that was passed in december. but, they may not pull in a forecast fully for might -- what might be coming at that time of that next fiscal stimulus package. most likely it is a june meeting that they would have to revise again. and then, most likely only by september when the forecast continues to track behind the economy. and they play catch up by revising higher. here's the thing, it is the unemployment rate that matters. even though we have inflation rising and reaching above 2% by the end of the year, that is not good enough, especially in the context of the six plus percent underlying unemployment rate. >> this is the story, the forecast for the fed right now. 22, 3 .2%. contrast the fed with morgan stanley. tom: the gap is this wide, and as you mentioned there are speeches next week. there

ellen: i don't think this is a one-off.on't think the positive jobs growth we expect to be reported later this morning to be the start of that massive inflow back into the labor market last year -- labor market like last year as we came under lockdown. but it will have the feel of may be have turned the corner in that was all restrictions, we are being put in place through mid-december, and then from mid-december onward, we did not have any further restrictions. we have started to see some of the restrictions, off. that should allow -- restrictions come off. that should allow more people to return to restaurants. it will start a trickle and then roll more quickly as we head towards the spring, especially into march. lisa: how much stimulus do we actually need? how much fiscal support in order to really get this label economy -- labor economy accelerating in the way you would like to see? ellen: i think the issue here for congress is they contemplate this next stimulus package is that the longer they delay, or the longer it
