let's get to stephen engle joining us from taipei.oes it mean for the ko t and taipei? stephen: it was a resounding victory for the opposition, the kmt. they won most of the seats that were up for election in the county and mayor ship elections we saw over the weekend. it's dealt a significant blow to the party head who resigned as the party had to take responsibility. the kmt, which in general favors more dialogue, interaction with mainland china, it won 13 of those 21 city and county races over the weekend while the dpp, which in general is more independent-minded, it won five of those races. it is the worst showing for the dpp since the party was founded in 1986. we should be careful not to draw too many conclusions from these local election results as far as any change in the status quo. the dpp advocates they want the status quo, everything hunky-dory as it is with mainland china, but again, it is easy to say that people are a little afraid of war. there was -- four beijing following the visit to taiwan by nancy pelosi, and that

stephen engle, thank you. we are now joined by the head of investment strategy and media -- investment strategy emea at j.p. morgan chase. we seem to have some positive catalysts out there, whether it is the fed's lael brainard saying that we need to consider smaller rate hikes or that the climate in the u.k. is warmer as well and what it means for the energy crisis. the trio of catalysts out of china as well. does this make your range and the estimates in your forecast ambitious at this point? grace: this is welcomed good news. as you mentioned, the key one is the cpi print that the markets got hold of and we are in for a phase of disinflation that the market is clearly welcoming. tom: we are in a phase of disinflation now? grace: yes, that will not be linear or fast, but we head into that point now where inflation over the next six months should fall meaningfully led by the u.s. in terms of the developed world. we also have to put that in the context of not getting overly optimistic. we were expecting inflat

let's bring in mliv contributor garfield reynolds and stephen engle. this idea that we are getting into a messy period where expectations and delivery from central banks is not necessarily matching up. what does that mean for bond markets in particular? garfield: i think it means bond markets become more nuanced. we are seeing signs of that in australia where the 10 year yield went from being 90 basis points above treasuries to being about 30 basis points below in a short amount of time. an extraordinary relative rally. we are likely to see -- there is a strong chance that treasury yields keep on moving higher and higher but they might not take some of the yields with them to the same extent and then what you see breaking out as part of how strong the currency moves were last week. yes, the china covid situation was part or was the immediate trigger but the underlying point is the u.s. dollar even before that happened had lost momentum. u.s. yields were still rising and rising further relative to the rest of the world and yet the dollar was losing mome
