to fast. we have several fasting periods during the year. if you take all those days together you are fasting for more than half the year. the fasts vary in strictness. great lent is the most strict, because it is the biggest feast that we're preparing for -- easter. we fast wednesdays and fridays during the regular parts of the year. we don't eat meat, fish, dairy products and eggs -- anything animal-related. we don't cook with oil at all on the days that we have to fast from oils. we tend to abstain from alcoholic beverages and wine. if you're an able-bodied person and you're healthy, there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to fast. that being said, if you are aged or infirmed, if you have some kind of illness, you need to make adjustments in your diet. i was born orthodox. i don't have any memories of not fasting for meat. we didn't fast from dairy products or fish. when my husband and i were married, we decided that we wanted to follow the church's teachings. we would fast from meat, d

fast or slow? - fast. - fast. fast ones leave. and when the fast ones go out into the vapor state, what's left behind? relatively slow. and so your most energetic molecules are gonna leave and that's gonna push the peak down 'cause the slow ones won't have the fast ones to bump into anymore. and it's not like there are some that are always slow and some that are always fast. these are all water molecules, the same mass. so the slowest at one moment might be the fastest at the next moment. there's a continual chaos of motions in there and it's always completely random, random that peaks out at some particular average. and when you take the faster moving and have them escape to the air, it stands to reason the slower moving are left behind. so thinking small, we can see why evaporation is a cooling process. this is one of the things that makes sense, yeah? any questions in this? i saw a nice example of this when i was in india some years ago. i was in khajuraho, india. it was really hot, like 110 fahrenheit. and i was trudging throu

more fast straight ahead. . >> welcome back to >> welcome back to fast money. ipo. wall street is bracing for the lowest fees ever given to their banks for undertaking an ipo that is not a government-led deal. 1.1% will be the percentage of the pro seeds raised that go to bankers. a consortium of a dozen players that split that money amongst themselves with the more prominent banks taking the bigger proportion as usual. in the history ofus ipos, where the treasury was selling stocks, was under a percentage point, but that was an unusual deal. in this case i'm told bankers are concerned. this breaking withholding the line and facebook is a hot ticket to take public, but at the same time they have to talk to clients who don't want to pay more than 1%. it's a tricky path for the wall street firms to walk at a time when they are on the up surge and they want to make the most out of it. >> 7% was the standard. in the multibillion dollar deals, at&t was a huge deal. it was 2.9% and that was the low side. 2% to 4% range was standard for the deals. it tends to be low w

welcome to "fast money" halftime report. lots of trade today. let's do it with vix plunging to the lowest level since july. what's it signaling here? >> you brought it up at the very top. talked about ranges we've seen. on top of that contraction we've had a steady plotting move to the upside. s&p 500 continues to push above 1350 area toward 1370. seems to be a consistent pattern that we see and watching that volatility index continue to be the leadership. we talked about it on many occasions and even sell-off days where volatility pops but that pop only lasts a couple sessions. we were talking last week. we've had three days since january 19th where we actually stayed above 20 three times. we've never done that in succession. it does tell you something about the markets right now and there is a level of comfort at least that people are reflecting right now on the vix. >> what is the average investor who is sitting at home looking at the vix listening to you explain it supposed to take from that in terms of what their investing strategy or tradi
