i'm just talking about san francisco. i can't -- for those out of towners, if that's what their values are, that's fine, but i'm talking about us in san francisco. but i realize that in the last six months, there's been opportunities for us -- the different departments -- the police departments and so forth -- to get further training in pretty similar stuff, whether it was for the mass demonstration piece, there was opportunities there. there were -- so in a way, it's -- there is he aa l's a l contradictions when people come and testify. i'd like to say, in my point of view, some of the things that public speakers pointed out is that urban shield is sort of a conflicting issue for us in san francisco. on the one hand, it promotes public safety through tactical training, and on the other hand, it instills fear in every community it aims to protect, so i don't know how to resolve that. and i'm -- as i mentioned earlier, i'm totally really unhappy about the timing of all this stuff, and it seems to happen over and over again

i feel very fortunate to work in san francisco. when i travel across the country and i am on one national board that looks at aging services, i realize how san francisco does exactly what you say. i mean, we are really at the forefront of these issues and thinking ahead often. i actually also think that ageism is so embedded in society that people just don't want to talk about it. one of the things we are doing as a department is to really look at what it means to reframe that conversation. there has been a lot of work done. there is an organization called frameworks that's really looked at reframing aging. we are looking to adopt that model in san francisco and think about how we talk about aging, being much more deliberate in using language, thinking about older adults, talking about older adults and aging instead of thinking about people being frail, thinking about people aging in the best way they can. it doesn't mean looking at aging and saying it is all glowing. it doesn't mean people don't get sick or we won't acknowledge th

getting to more specifics in san francisco. the study explored existing conditions documenting bottlenecks and delays and causes in san francisco. we conducted the analysis with the eye towards implementing something to benefit users in san francisco. one of the interesting findings is the bay bridge is the contributing bottleneck for west of 101, 101 north of 280 and the central freeway. mtc is leading a effort to address problems with the bay bridge. we are excited to participate in that. given those reasons, we developed the alternative you see here on your screen. this utilize ms. 101 and 280 to get vehicles in and out of downtown. the existing configuration allows continuous lane by re-striping. it would move to five miles to the county line. northbound because it ex its from the right side it would be a gap with no line on the 280 for four miles. then another opportunity to begin a lane touching down at sip and king helping people bypass the traffic backed up from the traffic signal there. obviously, outreach is important

love san francisco. we have many consulate generals here, and they come here because they love san francisco. mayor ed lee said i want to be engaged. and you know why he did? because he respected the diversity of this city. maybe because he was chinese american, but i think it was really that plus the heart. he loved the city, and he wanted it to be shining. we went on lots of trips because we have 18 sister cities, and there was a thread that went through all these trips: people really liked ed lee. he made friends, and friends in the -- going abroad and meeting people, you can get things done if you make friends. and i know somebody very well who's in this room who was our secret weapon when we had problems -- or potential problems with different areas around the world. and this person had that -- has that same ability of making friends and making things happen at home and abroad. i refer to him as my secretary, but the rest of the world knows him as the former secret of state, george schultz. >> you s
