stephanie chuang join us live this morning from hayward. we're hearing he's okay. >> reporter: he's okay and that's really the good news. the police department is open 24 hours so he was able to walk inside and get ahold of a dispatcher and able to get him help from some police officers here. he had i.d. on him. he also had his birth certificate on him wearing the same clothes he was last seen in at 8:30 saturday night on the usc campus where there was a festival going op. it was critical to find him because of a speech impediment and his accent, it was difficult to speak english and unfamiliar with the area. his family finally got the news z this morning that he is okay. >> his mother called in this morning and through a a translater we were able to let her know we found him and she's pleased and excited to be e reunited with him. >> again, the best news you could get. his special olympic sport is bowling and was supposed to fly home with his team yesterday. police have been working since this morning with special olympics delegates to see

a homicide investigation is underway in hayward. allie rasmus is live at the scene with what you have learned. >> reporter: hayward police just released this information. here's what they told us about what happened here -- morningside was the scene of this overnight homicide investigation. around 1:00 this morning, a man and a woman were walking in this area. this is the intersection we're talking about. at some point, a group of other men confronted them, approached them, there was some sort of words exchanged or confrontation. one of the men shot the man who had been walking here with the woman. that man died from his injuries here at the scene. we don't know anything more about the identity of the victim. what key can tell you -- we can tell you is that hayward police closed off streets and started to investigate. crime scene investigators were here at the scene. the area around morningside and arf was closed off. this is near mount eden high school. we spoke to several neighbors who had to be let out of the crime-scene protecte

hayward police quickly connected their visitor to the missing persons alert circulated statewide after andi gusmari was reported missing saturday night. the 44-year-old bowler is from albania who apparently speaks little english. police admit getting his story was a challenge. well we contacted the at&t language line and we enlisted the services of an albanian interpreter, so we were able to get some information but very limited indications are he made the 350 mile trip from los angeles to hayward by bus. he was dressed only in shorts and a t=shirt. he did look cold. we gave him a blanket and and some food. he had no visible injuries. he was gusmari also spoke by phone with family members. representatives from the los angeles police and special olympics came to pick him up. he'll be sent back home with quirea story to tell. another special olympic athlete went missing for several hours today. a 15=year old table tennis competitor from the ivory coast. disappeared from l=a=x at six=thirty this morning. inglewood. >> pam:san francisco public schools are today. and the district is scrambl
