so coming to the hill, i never worked on the hill, i had never been in the legislature before gettinged, so it was a priority to find someone who knew something about what this world looks like. as i asked around and tried to consult everyone i could, this one name kept popping up. it was roddy flynn. he is my chief and he has been so instrumental. this is his award because he lives and breathes the management and the life on the hill. he worked on the hill for a period of time before, and his name kept coming up as i was looking for someone. so we met and it turned out we have these similar backgrounds, we both fled large law firms and had active engagement with pro bono work through those firms. so we have touched stones -- touchstones there, but we agreed one goal was to have a no drama environment in the midst of one of the most dramatic places on earth probably. so i'm so grateful to him. for having stood up this office and done the research. every time i see him he is reading another book on management or consulting with someone, working with congressional management foundations

i am on blossom hill road near santa teresa boulevard. i am probably about maybe half a block, maybe about three-quarters of a mile away from it. the smoke is just absolutely billowing. i haven't had a chance to see whether you've been able to show much video of it, but i'm sure if you have you can tell that this is one major structure fire. the smoke that is blowing in the air is as thick as i have ever seen it. it is causing all sorts of traffic jams, not only in terms of streets being closed but just everybody stopping to watch because it is an amazing sight. i can imagine that the air quality around here is going to be affected by this, that's how thick and black this smoke is that is coming from apparently the home depot building, which is right across the street from the oak ridge shopping mall. so given the traffic that usually accumulates around the mall as well as the people that are being affected by the traffic stoppage because of the fire trucks and everybody arriving, it is really a hectic scene right here. i can't see what k
